		<official-title>To provide grants for the renovation, modernization or
		  construction of law enforcement facilities.</official-title>

		<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short
			 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as
			 the <quote><short-title>Protect Those Who Serve
			 Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="id51738FE5B11A425FAEAE9A7E607945B2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text>
			<paragraph id="idDAABE4E6CE5148679D185FC2AB59D671"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Law enforcement
			 facilities</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term
			 <quote>law enforcement facilities</quote> means any building or facilities that
			 houses State or local public safety officers that have law enforcement
			 standing.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="idE6F487342835474E8C8F759128ACCBD3"><enum>(2)</enum><header>State</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>State</quote> means each of
			 the several States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,
			 the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the
			 Virgin Islands, any territory or possession of the United States, and any
			 Indian tribe.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="idA2A87AC3B1534C3C92F4AD21695E99C0"><enum>3.</enum><header>Grants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Attorney General is authorized to make
			 grants to States for the renovation, modernization, and construction of law
			 enforcement facilities.</text>
		</section><section id="id00EEA62E72D44E4B835DF053D646238B"><enum>4.</enum><header>Matching
			 requirement</header>
			<subsection id="id340EEEA2624C46F391A7FB44A28887EA"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Matching
			 requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The matching
			 requirements for this Act are as follows:</text>
				<paragraph id="id91F6B7A5BC7A46E7A4F92D94FA85AA9D"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Law enforcement facilities serving
			 populations of over 50,000 or more shall agree to match the Federal grant funds
			 with an amount of non-Federal funds equal to 20 percent of the total project
			 cost.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id8AE43CEA4DC1480FB4D1639177BDAED5"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Law enforcement facilities serving
			 populations between 20,000 and 50,000 shall agree to match the Federal grant
			 funds with an amount of non-Federal funds equal to 10 percent of the total
			 project cost.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id29BA324E394C4234979063920778E5AB"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Law enforcement facilities serving areas
			 with a population of 20,000 or fewer shall agree to match the Federal grant
			 funds with an amount of non-Federal funds equal to 5 percent of the total
			 project cost.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id632373169BA24470AA242E627D5D7D8F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Cost-Share</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes of this section, the regional
			 projects’ cost-share shall be based on the total population and demographics of
			 the entire region.</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="id27C0B1F6939A4B24B16443D358445020"><enum>5.</enum><header>Administration</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Attorney General shall prescribe
			 requirements, including application requirements, for grants under the program
			 under this Act.</text>
		</section><section id="idCF8C6C2CECA340EBA73C40930B579A73"><enum>6.</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">There are
			 authorized to be appropriated to carry out this Act $500,000,000 for fiscal
			 years 2012 through 2017.</text>
