		  encourage research and carry out an educational campaign with respect to

			 <quote><short-title>Tom Lantos Pulmonary Hypertension
			 Research and Education Act of 2011</short-title></quote>.</text>

			 pulmonary hypertension</header>
			<section id="H52525B648E3B4C7AB01E58C8FDD33D41"><enum>101.</enum><header>Expansion and
			 intensification of activities</header>
				<subsection id="H61B2FAC79C0E42B0A660D6173264A414"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Sense of
			 Congress</header><text>It is the sense of the Congress that—</text>
					<paragraph id="HE9B7657AEDC6428E9500BFE1881C1CCC"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Secretary of
			 Health and Human Services (in this Act referred to as the
			 <quote>Secretary</quote>), acting through the Director of the National
			 Institutes of Health and the Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood
			 Institute (in this title referred to as the <quote>Institute</quote>), should
			 continue aggressive work on pulmonary hypertension;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="HCF17298F4AFC45E4A0EA3E1785AE97A1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>as part of such
			 work, the Director of the Institute should continue research to expand the
			 understanding of the causes of, and to find a cure for, pulmonary hypertension;
			 and</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H200E6275A138414EB086EB1BDDA4AC9B"><enum>(3)</enum><text>activities under
			 paragraph (1) may include conducting and supporting—</text>
						<subparagraph id="H9EDFF8C8838F4E45A88C2D70F126EC39"><enum>(A)</enum><text>basic research
			 concerning the etiology and causes of pulmonary hypertension;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HA0E25A1D295E4B119674F4AB95283F15"><enum>(B)</enum><text>basic research on
			 the relationship between scleroderma, sickle cell anemia (and other conditions
			 identified by the Director of the Institute that can lead to a secondary
			 diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension), and pulmonary hypertension;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HF9598AE130774642A5E06F2266E03661"><enum>(C)</enum><text>clinical research
			 for the development and evaluation of new treatments for pulmonary
			 hypertension, including the establishment of a <quote>Pulmonary Hypertension
			 Clinical Research Network</quote>;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H7A665215AEF14B7AA1B80800D020C78"><enum>(D)</enum><text>support for the
			 training of new clinicians and investigators with expertise in the pulmonary
			 hypertension; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H31916CB977D04CACA5531877DCCFC6B9"><enum>(E)</enum><text>information and
			 education programs for the general public.</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HBBAE937A5F95419ABB22CCC882C874EE"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Biennial
			 reports</header><text>As part of the biennial report made under section 403 of
			 the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 283), the Secretary shall include
			 information on the status of pulmonary hypertension research at the National
			 Institutes of Health.</text>
				</subsection></section></title><title id="H8BA66EA4EF42483FA1510043B512A500"><enum>II</enum><header>Increasing
			 awareness of pulmonary hypertension</header>
			<section id="HCA238BFC44B94078889C4BEFF617B4E6"><enum>201.</enum><header>Promoting
			 public awareness</header>
				<subsection id="HE7AA9ACE5B0E494F9C8DEB0177A8C113"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers
			 for Disease Control and Prevention, shall carry out an educational campaign to
			 increase public awareness of pulmonary hypertension. Print, video, and
			 Web-based materials distributed under this program may include—</text>
					<paragraph id="H784A9A5A08A041A78BEF676220F0F7B1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>basic information
			 on pulmonary hypertension and its symptoms; and</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="HA873F5900EB14642BD4D6D1D02493F68"><enum>(2)</enum><text>information
			 on—</text>
						<subparagraph id="H54A69A047D9448AB98D3BFF4F129357B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the incidence and
			 prevalence of pulmonary hypertension;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE566A6DC3BEB4BDAB0608769F71E8240"><enum>(B)</enum><text>diseases and
			 conditions that can lead to pulmonary hypertension as a secondary
			 diagnosis;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HF2642BCFC2AC491F95752C9F8E05AB3D"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the importance of
			 early diagnosis; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HCE4D51E91585408CAAF6F6D6229A6C8"><enum>(D)</enum><text>the availability,
			 as medically appropriate, of a range of treatment options and pulmonary
			 hypertension.</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H304372954EE24431ABDFDCD7DCAEAC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Dissemination of
			 information</header><text>The Secretary is encouraged to disseminate
			 information under subsection (a) through a cooperative agreement with a
			 national nonprofit entity with expertise in pulmonary hypertension.</text>
				</subsection><subsection id="HD1041C630F5B4A61A6491F7FBC5F0948"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report to
			 Congress</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than
			 September 30, 2011, the Secretary shall report to the Committee on Energy and
			 Commerce of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Health, Education,
			 Labor, and Pensions of the Senate, and the Committee on Appropriations of the
			 House of Representatives and the Senate on the status of activities under this
			 section.</text>
				</subsection><subsection id="HF05B1A6361F348B78672FC0089AFF2E2"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 Appropriations</header><text>For the purpose of carrying out this section,
			 there are authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out
			 this section for each of fiscal years 2012, 2013, and 2014.</text>
				</subsection></section><section id="H2A03387019F54CA0A41E5D26D3BBA862"><enum>202.</enum><header>Promoting
			 awareness among health care professionals</header>
				<subsection id="H933FA7D4C94348389E59CDD1559C2CDC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>The Secretary, acting through the Administrator of the
			 Health Resources and Services Administration and the Director of the Centers
			 for Disease Control and Prevention, shall carry out an educational campaign to
			 increase awareness of pulmonary hypertension among health care providers.
			 Print, video, and Web-based materials distributed under this program may
			 include information on—</text>
					<paragraph id="H2FC0904D27404FA0B6B9AD9DD296D5C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the symptoms of
			 pulmonary hypertension;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H08C0AEB2B0BE4A8CA81381011321E0BF"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the importance of
			 early diagnosis;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H85DCD2CCFCF74D02AD9EC9C625F7F8E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>current diagnostic
			 criteria; and</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="HEBC70819551F4E0E8D49DD2042FD38E"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Food and Drug
			 Administration-approved therapies for the disease.</text>
					</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H87EFB8859F204E8EB08FC020A8987740"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Targeted health
			 care providers</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Health care
			 providers targeted through the campaign under subsection (a) shall include, but
			 not be limited to, cardiologists, pulmonologists, rheumatologists, primary care
			 physicians, pediatricians, and nurse practitioners.</text>
				</subsection><subsection id="H64FB0B3ED231430FB1003CEEC791E3DC"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Dissemination of
			 information</header><text>The Secretary is encouraged to disseminate
			 information under subsection (a) through a cooperative agreement with a
			 national nonprofit entity with expertise in pulmonary hypertension.</text>
				</subsection><subsection id="H98487AF953F8477D957CF1AF1D8DB31"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report to
			 Congress</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than
			 September 30, 2011, the Secretary shall report to the Committee on Energy and
			 Commerce of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Health, Education,
			 Labor, and Pensions of the Senate, and the Committee on Appropriations of the
			 House of Representatives and the Senate on the status of activities under this
			 section.</text>
				</subsection><subsection id="H1F64EEB4410D41688F61B5ECD981B0C3"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For the
			 purpose of carrying out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated
			 such sums as are necessary to carry out this section for each of fiscal years
			 2012, 2013 and 2014.</text>
