		<official-title>To amend the statute of limitations for civil actions
		  regarding terrorist acts.</official-title>

		<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short
			 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as
			 the <quote><short-title>American Victims of Terrorism
			 Justice Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="idb25c66b0c4ab4a8fb19d92387c710b49"><enum>2.</enum><header>Statute of
			 limitations for civil actions regarding terrorist acts</header>
			<subsection id="id24307504d3f547e286bacadb08f42e14"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Section 2335 of title 18, United States Code, is
			 amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id144180b646954d28844f263ea39031be"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (a), by striking <quote>four years</quote> and inserting <quote>10
			 years</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id4b19a28348334999a566a9dfab71778e"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (b), by striking <quote>four years</quote> and inserting <quote>10
			 years</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="iddfee0847c88846e0a6ba015205c44e10"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to—</text>
				<paragraph id="id36138C3A10574C9D9B308C18FD15FE0F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>proceedings
			 pending in any form on the date of the enactment of this Act;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idE8B6DE152CE64DDFA6090AAB0AAA8F91"><enum>(2)</enum><text>proceedings
			 commenced on or after the date of the enactment of this Act; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idcfa6306f4f8142aba47144e71cfc30af"><enum>(3)</enum><text>any civil action
			 brought for recovery of damages under section 2333 of title 18, United States
			 Code, provided that such action is filed not later than 6 years after the date
			 of enactment of this subsection.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id6f6ce3f73c09419f93d14b80aedac95e"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effect of
			 dismissed causes of action</header><text>Any private civil action arising from
			 a violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1991 may be refiled not later than 90
			 days after the date of enactment of this Act if the action—</text>
				<paragraph id="id9d6f928b36ba4400a8ecd24979823dab"><enum>(1)</enum><text>was dismissed as
			 time barred prior to the date of enactment of this Act; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id19d5db1b53d14bcfb0c67ff04896be48"><enum>(2)</enum><text>would have been
			 timely filed pursuant to section 2335 of title 18, United States Code, as
			 amended by this section.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body>
