		<official-title>To amend title 13, United States Code, to provide for the
		  more accurate and complete enumeration of members of the Armed Forces in any
		  tabulation of total population by the Secretary of Commerce, and for other
		  purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="id87C58938CF624892B773118CECF709A6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Service Members and Communities Count
			 Act of 2012</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="id742CF27DEFE84A25B65682A1CD57C145" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Improved enumeration
			 of members of the Armed Forces in any tabulation of total population by
			 Secretary of Commerce</header>
			<subsection id="idAE8EA451E5B9414B9AF3255F88E1D0AB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 141 of title
			 13, United States Code, is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id1C3A522FB6B14A0796F5B5F84EFA044F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (g) as subsection (h); and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idCC5FB28144A6495A802DAF859E2FF690"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 after subsection (f) the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id538F8F476DFC440E84372FA71A360B7E" style="OLC">
						<subsection id="idA948DCC4C7B94080BEB294D7AD1712D7"><enum>(g)</enum><text>Effective
				beginning with the 2020 decennial census of population, in taking any
				tabulation of total population by States, the Secretary shall take appropriate
				measures to ensure, to the maximum extent practicable, that all members of the
				Armed Forces deployed abroad on the date of taking such tabulation are—</text>
							<paragraph id="id12AEFAF9D7F2476D941312722D433646"><enum>(1)</enum><text>fully and
				accurately counted; and</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="idB5B62CEB6A0641F8A316CD5AC9E59799"><enum>(2)</enum><text>properly
				attributed to the State in which their permanent duty station or homeport is
				located on such
				date.</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idC3BD79E346AF4F8785FB3B448A6F7577"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Construction</header><text>The
			 amendments made by subsection (a) shall not be construed to affect the
			 residency status of any member of the Armed Forces under any provision of law
			 other than title 13, United States Code.</text>
