		  Federal immigration law, and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="H4440AB2F8C784501946B5D489995D769" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Hinder the Administration's
			 Legalization Temptation Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>HALT Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H24D6E474F38B4C70A2E8C8F08F5F6341"><enum>2.</enum><header>Suspension of
			 effectiveness of certain laws</header>
			<subsection id="HDF3C23ECE63E4AC2B6FD531D3B80058B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Waiver of
			 inadmissibility of aliens unlawfully present</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding clause (v) of section
			 212(a)(9)(B) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(9)(B)),
			 the Attorney General may not waive the application of clause (i) of such
			 section during the period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act
			 and ending on January 21, 2013.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H3E668E5CF4DA4DED9B7A921F78B17B49"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Parole</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding section 212(d)(5)(A) of the
			 Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1182(d)(5)(A)), the Attorney General
			 may not exercise the discretionary authority conferred under such section
			 during the period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act and ending
			 on January 21, 2013, except to parole an alien into the United States—</text>
				<paragraph id="HBF5F96A01D194D2DBD4C7644565E3187"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to be tried for a
			 crime, or to be a witness at trial, upon the request of a Federal, State, or
			 local law enforcement agency;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H43DEACE088424A6F9F22B7D358B6E01E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>for any other
			 significant law enforcement or national security purpose; or</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H1144F9A4FAA74807BA65B74332F42A1D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>for a humanitarian
			 purpose if the life of the alien is imminently threatened.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HCCA47472725E414AB6275B808BCFB378"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Cancellation of
			 removal and adjustment of status for certain nonpermanent
			 residents</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding
			 section 240A(b)(1) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C.
			 1229b(b)(1)), the Attorney General may not exercise the discretionary authority
			 conferred under such section during the period beginning on the date of the
			 enactment of this Act and ending on January 21, 2013.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H64A05CD96893442A90F2F7B334FC0F9C"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Designation for
			 temporary protected status</header>
				<paragraph id="idA6C4E6B4B9B74DC3A5EA649DB0F01AF5"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided under paragraph (2), no
			 foreign state may be designated or redesignated under section 244(b) of the
			 Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1254a(b)) during the period beginning
			 on the date of the enactment of this Act and ending on January 21, 2013.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id18636ED995254C34A766926C670ABF6F"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Rule of
			 construction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The limitation
			 under paragraph (1) may not be construed to affect any extension of a
			 designation made before the date of the enactment of this Act under section
			 244(b)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1F715DFE684C4A2DA45C5C52F84F099B"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Definition of
			 unauthorized alien</header>
				<paragraph id="id3A86BB28AC134A1AB60376C7E916A362"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 274A(h)(3) of the Immigration and
			 Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1324a(h)(3)) is amended by striking <quote>, or by
			 the Attorney General</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idD1CC58F3D1444BE0A32E5B19059EC374"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Sunset
			 provision</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendment made
			 by paragraph (1) shall be effective during the period beginning on the date of
			 the enactment of this Act and ending on January 21, 2013.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H5FBE5A7C572A441891E43AF9F2BB5D47"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Deferred action;
			 extended voluntary departure</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Homeland Security may not
			 grant deferred action or extended voluntary departure to any alien during the
			 period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act and ending on January
			 21, 2013, except to maintain the alien in the United States—</text>
				<paragraph id="HC2893BA2CFA247F1B209E58DF228301B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to be tried for a
			 crime, or to be a witness at trial, upon the request of a Federal, State, or
			 local law enforcement agency;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF322EB78877345E6A2AAF1D182FF58E3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>for any other
			 significant law enforcement or national security purpose; or</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE514BC1139C640FB8DE2A8899B5ABFF9"><enum>(3)</enum><text>for a humanitarian
			 purpose if the life of the alien is imminently threatened.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HBA68923BF6A64EE99E6D28B70F76CB58"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Regulations</header>
				<paragraph id="H394809E06D0A4F51B6D37964417F7475"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>During the period beginning on the date of the enactment
			 of this Act and ending on January 21, 2013, the following provisions of title
			 8, Code of Federal Regulations, are suspended:</text>
					<subparagraph id="H3131248ACEBD4F3DA54CB93614F175F1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Section
			 274a.12(a)(11).</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB70D457FC4EF4F9CAF7CF790977244F2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Section
			 274a.12(c)(11).</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H0541530AE24B49F29C2BD376D876FB6E"><enum>(C)</enum><text>Section
			 274a.12(c)(14).</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD663CEDC9D09404A9AA9E3AAB01E070E"><enum>(D)</enum><text>Section
			 274a.12(c)(16).</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB3552711C148434E85F6791AEC7C9023"><enum>(E)</enum><text>Section
			 274a.12(c)(18).</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H7DDCFE3AA63B4461845039A6DFE4F58A"><enum>(2)</enum><header>References</header><text>Any
			 reference in paragraph (1) to a section of the Code of Federal Regulations
			 shall be construed to be a reference to that section and any successor
			 section.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H43589372F6E64F2B876AFFCFD5C1196D"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Treatment of
			 certain benefits</header><text>Any immigration benefit granted during the
			 period beginning on July 12, 2011, and ending on the date of the enactment of
			 this Act under any authority suspended under subsection (b), (e), (f), or (g)
			 is revoked as of the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
