		<legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type>
		<official-title display="yes">Expressing the sense of the House of
		  Representatives that a National Hispanic-serving Institutions Week should be
		  established, and commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Hispanic Association
		  of Colleges and Universities.</official-title>
	</form>
	<preamble>
		<whereas><text>Whereas Hispanic-serving institutions play an important
			 role in educating many underprivileged students and helping such students
			 attain their full potential through higher education;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas in 2010, 307 public and private non-profit
			 institutions of higher education met the Federal enrollment criterion of at
			 least 25 percent Hispanic students to qualify as Hispanic-serving institutions
			 under section 502 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1101a),
			 enrolling 1,348,436 Hispanic students.</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Hispanic-serving institutions are actively
			 involved in stabilizing and improving the communities in which the institutions
			 are located;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas celebrating the vast contributions of
			 Hispanic-serving institutions contributes to the strength and culture of our
			 Nation;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the achievements and goals of Hispanic-serving
			 institutions are deserving of national recognition;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the designation of the week of September 19, 2011,
			 as <quote>National Hispanic-serving Institutions Week</quote> is an appropriate
			 expression of such recognition;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Hispanic Association of Colleges and
			 Universities fulfills its mission by—</text>
			<paragraph id="H19FA2841EAC04F07A80154D4B3429E81"><enum>(1)</enum><text>promoting the
			 development of member colleges and universities;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H3537B55ADE4A4767B98C60CC9BF76111"><enum>(2)</enum><text>improving access
			 to, and the quality of, postsecondary educational opportunities for Hispanic
			 students; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H8CA23F1A5D084125898559BE50373AB2"><enum>(3)</enum><text>meeting the needs
			 of business, industry, and government through the development and sharing of
			 resources, information, and expertise; and</text>
			</paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 2011 is the Silver anniversary of the Hispanic
			 Association of Colleges and Universities, and the organization has spent 25
			 years working to improve the capacity of Hispanic-serving institutions to help
			 students succeed across our Nation: Now, therefore, be it</text>
		</whereas></preamble>
	<resolution-body id="HEE1804076BA54240A4BE825F5C46099D" style="traditional">
		<section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H4FDE79EE15ED46D2934B1F11CA6F991B" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives—</text>
			<paragraph id="HCFBC8A719521443DB4D704881F9F1A47"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes the
			 achievements and goals of Hispanic-serving institutions across the
			 Nation;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H0909E4F72FAA43C78C4270926C7E78BB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>congratulates the
			 Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities on its 25th anniversary and
			 recognizes its achievements and goals during the past 25 years;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H242EAC30D4D84BC0837A325526AED05E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>supports the
			 designation and recognition of <quote>National Hispanic-serving Institutions
			 Week</quote>;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H05FCC6F45FBA4699B82C72C430A902D1"><enum>(4)</enum><text>requests the
			 President to issue a proclamation designating such a week; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H4798E5FDEB704E279A5E52EF7D727351"><enum>(5)</enum><text>calls on the
			 people of the United States and interested groups to observe such a week with
			 appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs to demonstrate support for
			 Hispanic-serving institutions.</text>
