		<official-title>To amend the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to
		  preclude law firms and licensed attorneys from the definition of a debt
		  collector when taking certain actions.</official-title>

		<section id="H116E872EB68E46F5A20F95B50D7DD033" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Fair Debt Collection Practices
			 Technical Correction Act of 2012</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H91B20109C7E74D3FB85AF7C8BAC21180"><enum>2.</enum><header>Legal proceeding
			 exception</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 803(6) of
			 the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (12 U.S.C. 1692a(6)) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="HFB381A3A64D548AA98F9089C30224BA4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subparagraph (F) as subparagraph (G); and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HC509707160814D3D8B79F827E791CFDF"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after
			 subparagraph (E) the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HDB3620AC54FF4ADFA3D6F2DA5D729F49" style="OLC">
					<subparagraph id="H82383ACF4B194A56BE5F6E190FBF2BB4"><enum>(F)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">any law firm or licensed attorney—</text>
						<clause id="HD13F97FF4F0A4AACA598449282B95D42"><enum>(i)</enum><text>serving, filing,
				or conveying formal legal pleadings, discovery requests, or other documents
				pursuant to the applicable rules of civil procedure; or</text>
						</clause><clause id="H58BBBD5D96E34324BA55E77822AAED75"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>communicating in,
				or at the direction of, a court of law or in depositions or settlement
				conferences, in connection with a pending legal action to collect a debt on
				behalf of a client;
				and</text>
						</clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
