		<section id="HB256BE58FA864E50A351053929730427" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 601 of the Rural Electrification Act
			 of 1936 (7 U.S.C. 950bb) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="HCBCC052CD6CA4346906CEC4D188A17D5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (d),
			 by adding at the end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFCFBC167CD3D46089AA17315E8DEBE4B" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="HBD294072865040CC8341E482A16FB236"><enum>(8)</enum><header>Additional
				process</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall
				establish a process under which an incumbent service provider which, as of the
				date of the publication of notice under paragraph (5) with respect to an
				application submitted by the provider, is providing broadband service to a
				remote rural area, may (but shall not be required to) submit to the Secretary,
				not less than 15 and not more than 30 days after that date, information
				regarding the broadband services that the provider offers in the proposed
				service territory, so that the Secretary may assess whether the application
				meets the requirements of this section with respect to eligible
				projects.</text>
					</paragraph><after-quoted-block>;

			</paragraph><paragraph id="HB8F8861F61CD401B8AEE6EC1F4D8555E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (e),
			 by adding at the end the following:</text>

					<paragraph id="HD07757E94B1845ABBEB6567512A61FFF"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In considering the technology needs of
				customers in a proposed service territory, the Secretary shall take into
				consideration the upgrade or replacement cost for the construction or
				acquisition of facilities and equipment in the
				territory.</text>
