		  Service with the authority to obtain information directly from agencies of the

		<section id="HC30AC0F7C28C42DB9290FB3D89F9BD2A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote>Transparency and Accountability in Government Act</quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HAE79A9C2C5744A67B05BF04C8F4AF27B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Access of
			 congressional research service to government information</header>
			<subsection id="HA7249745369845CEAE210E0FC5A3F925"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Direct access to
			 information</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 203 of
			 the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946 (2 U.S.C. 166) is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HFEF7C234D9F148B0BE83BC206696FA91"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (j) as subsection (k); and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE569029D25CF4EAB9B49DFD1F349F1DA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after
			 subsection (i) the following new subsection:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HC3474EBE3CCF46D39BC5C8D4CFA11362" style="traditional">
						<subsection id="HBD1E5EDEDDC040AFAB6599AFEED9D306"><enum>(j)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In carrying out the duties and functions of
				the Congressional Research Service in response to a request made by a Member of
				Congress, the Director is authorized to secure such information, data,
				estimates, and statistics directly from the various departments, agencies, and
				establishments of the executive branch of the Government and the regulatory
				agencies and commissions of the Government as the Director determines (with the
				approval of the Member making the request) to be necessary to carry out the
				request, and all such departments, agencies, establishments, and regulatory
				agencies and commissions shall furnish the Director with all such available
				material (other than material the disclosure of which would be a violation of
				law).</text>
						</subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HB5497D26A5E0491EB186DB630EC53C16"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming
			 amendment</header><text>Section 203(d)(1) of such Act (2 U.S.C. 166(d)(1)) is
			 amended in the matter following subparagraph (C) by striking <quote>and in the
			 performance of this duty</quote> and all that follows through <quote>comply
			 with such request;</quote>.</text>
