		<official-title>To amend title 4, United States Code, to provide for the
		  flying of the flag at half-staff in the event of the death of a first responder
		  in the line of duty.</official-title>

		<section id="HD98382D3C5B649C1A38858683A4BB8FC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote>Honoring
			 Hometown Heroes Act</quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H5A3690AF86BD46189098FD14C233147F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Permitting the
			 flag to be flown at half-staff in the event of the death of a first responder
			 serving in the line of duty</header>
			<subsection id="HC4F3A66A929547768A2DC1E0864C18EB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The sixth sentence of section 7(m) of title
			 4, United States Code, is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HF6A7CFDEFBBB4764B8E9B4F4A6ADAA1D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>or</quote> after <quote>possession of the United States</quote> and
			 inserting a comma;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF4AC283C9473400EA325317CC1831CA4"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting <quote>, or the death of a
			 first responder from any State, territory, or possession, who dies while
			 serving in the line of duty</quote> after <quote>while serving on active
			 duty,</quote>;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H5D40B572526340269AA82B0C17F96210"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>and</quote> after <quote>former officials of the District of
			 Columbia</quote> and inserting a comma; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H930A760AD46145BC84CA2382318BDD92"><enum>(4)</enum><text>by inserting
			 before the period the following: <quote>, and first responders from the
			 District of Columbia</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HB7748635A98E4CBA92E0862987570426"><enum>(b)</enum><header>First responder
			 defined</header><text>Such subsection is further amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="H59C905E19B26477EA8EF797EA2662059"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (2), by striking
			 <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H4FB9FB709C264CF59ECED6E5318A7417"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (3),
			 by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>;
			 and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H2A9FE68A3A0143D9AE950D0BA696E1CF"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following new paragraph:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF10FE96C9F804151A7446E55E5032B1A" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="H15C542BD817F4CDD93F09B8EF9039E08"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the term <term>first responder</term> means
				a firefighter, police officer, or emergency medical service
				provider.</text>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H2577AADCFCA84B598862E00708B90D49"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 Date</header><text>The amendments made by this Act shall apply to deaths
			 occurring on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
