		<official-title>To amend the Act of June 18, 1934, to reaffirm the
		  authority of the Secretary of the Interior to take land into trust for Indian
		  tribes, and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="H176CC958A20146BEBC4874CD2B6A304C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Authority reaffirmed</header>
			<subsection id="H5D502890E07B4BE6B1F7F7CC142AB2CE"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Clarification</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 5 of the Act of June 18, 1934
			 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian Reorganization Act</quote>; 25 U.S.C.
			 465), is amended in the first sentence by striking <quote>The Secretary</quote>
			 and inserting <quote>Except in Alaska, the Secretary</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H19A42EF0D593451EAF0309E0AC64D907"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Reaffirmation</header><text>Section
			 19 of the Act of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian
			 Reorganization Act</quote>; 25 U.S.C. 479), is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HB523551D6E854B6C8CE57CDAFCCE048F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the first
			 sentence—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H7354041600AB4312B0573462F22B5E4D"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>The term</quote> and inserting <quote>Effective beginning on June 18,
			 1934, the term</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HDD9686A3179B4E659D189146561A051D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>any recognized Indian tribe now under Federal jurisdiction</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>any federally recognized Indian tribe</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H00077F2A2B64443DAEAE36FB87420192"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the
			 third sentence and inserting the following: <quote>In this section, the term
			 <quote>Indian tribe</quote> means any Indian or Alaska Native tribe, band,
			 nation, pueblo, village, or community that the Secretary of the Interior
			 acknowledges to exist as an Indian tribe.</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HDB388B25BCDA431FA0F1FB4416033370"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 Date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall take effect as if
			 included in the Act of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian
			 Reorganization Act</quote>; 25 U.S.C. 479), on the date of enactment of that
			 Act.</text>
