				<paragraph id="ID2c902051de564400a1807632cfd4e2ed"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>The President shall appoint, by and with the advice and
			 consent of the Senate—</text>
					<subparagraph id="IDd6f88a94f889439b84d6c559a404bab7"><enum>(A)</enum><text>1 additional
			 district judge for the eastern district of California; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID458d1133e0da4c87a79457a82c891b06"><enum>(B)</enum><text>1 additional
			 district judge for the district of Nebraska.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="IDf326d5a0fabd40eab4fc23fad51e11e4"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Vacancies not
			 filled</header><text>The first vacancy in the office of district judge in each
			 of the offices of district judge authorized by this subsection, occurring 10
			 years or more after the confirmation date of the judge named to fill the
			 temporary district judgeship created in the applicable district by this
			 subsection, shall not be filled.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="IDa34b616cf6c84765a35030fd7aedf17c"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Extension of
			 certain temporary judgeships</header><text>Section 203(c) of the Judicial
			 Improvements Act of 1990 (Public Law 101–650; 28 U.S.C. 133 note) is
			 amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id106902170C1B4060BF2E40F65333FAE8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the second
			 sentence, by inserting <quote>the district of Hawaii,</quote> after
			 <quote>Pennsylvania,</quote>;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id566CE5E6826440F8925BB7EE0D59F85F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in the third
			 sentence (relating to the district of Kansas), by striking <quote>17
			 years</quote> and inserting <quote>26 years</quote>;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idAE7BBAF414DA4151B77F2B4E4C62D4FB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in the fifth
			 sentence (relating to the northern district of Ohio), by striking <quote>17
			 years</quote> and inserting <quote>25 years</quote>; and</text>

			 <quote>The first vacancy in the office of district judge in the district of

			 judgeships</header>
					<paragraph id="id01562043-9c29-49a5-8287-43b5472dfb4e"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>The President shall appoint, by and with the advice and
			 consent of the Senate—</text>
						<subparagraph id="id9c1a163c-ae35-40a9-9e79-6362adfdc0a8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>1 additional district
			 judge for the eastern district of California; and</text>

			 1990 (Public Law 101–650; 28 U.S.C. 133 note) is amended—</text>
						<subparagraph id="id53c38ade-d9e7-4259-9628-7c5ee0db469c"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the third sentence
			 (relating to the district of Kansas), by striking <quote>19 years</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>26 years</quote>;</text>

			 first vacancy</quote> and inserting <quote>Except with respect to the district
			 of Arizona, the central district of California, and the eastern district of

			 109–8</external-xref></header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The
			 temporary offices of bankruptcy judges established by section 1223(b)(1) of
			 <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/109/8">Public Law
			 109–8</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/28/152">28 U.S.C. 152</external-xref> note) for the
			 following districts are hereby converted so as to be included in the permanent
			 offices of bankruptcy judges that are added by the amendments made by section

				<subsection id="HBBD6933C8D6C42C5AE43EC1520F0A619"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Extensions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The temporary offices of bankruptcy judges
			 established for the eastern district of Pennsylvania and the middle district of
			 North Carolina by section 1223(b)(1) of
			 <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/109/8">Public Law
			 109–8</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/28/152">28 U.S.C. 152</external-xref> note) are extended
			 until the 1st vacancy occurring in the office of a bankruptcy judge in the
			 respective district resulting from the death, retirement, resignation, or
			 removal of a bankruptcy judge and occurring 5 years or more after the date of
			 the enactment of this Act.</text>

			 provisions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided
			 in subsection (a), all other provisions of section 1223(b) of
			 <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/109/8">Public Law
			 109–8</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/28/152">28 U.S.C. 152</external-xref> note) remain
			 applicable to the temporary offices of bankruptcy judges referred to in
			 subsection (a).</text>

			 dates</header>

			 date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided in
			 subsection (b), this title and the amendments made by this title shall take
			 effect on the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
				</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HAB1F623856504D2BAD59D339EBB449D9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Special effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by section 205 shall take effect 180
			 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
