		  acknowledge the receipt of medical, disability, and pension claims and other
		  communications submitted by claimants, and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="H358ABA9B9C9D46B4AA82BE368DCD6624" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Veterans Entitlement to Service Act of
			 2009</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>VETS
			 Act of 2009</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HB6CB939E281740B4006C6DE89E3578AE"><enum>2.</enum><header>Acknowledgment by
			 Secretary of Veterans Affairs of receipt of medical, disability, and pension
			 claims and other communications submitted by claimants</header>
			<subsection id="id162EDC1C37C24BDCA24862ABEBF202C5"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Chapter 51 of title
			 38, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 5102 the
			 following new section:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1D31A24BF2E04993BCAB072027D76FC9" style="USC">
					<section id="idDF3BF41A6D434023B2F60FD37288C5BC"><enum>5102A.</enum><header>Acknowledgment
				of claims</header>
						<subsection id="idC75EDBEC28C3406E850F2DD960EE205C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall
				acknowledge the receipt of any claim for medical services, disability
				compensation, or pension under the laws administered by the Secretary, or other
				communication relating to such services, compensation, or pension, submitted to
				the Secretary by a claimant within 30 days of receiving the claim or other
				communication.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="idB5480E17864549D6A9F9A9A75417859D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Record of date
				received</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The acknowledgment
				required by subsection (a) shall specify the date on which the Secretary
				received the claim or other communication described in such subsection.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="idD68709E604CD4ECD8646746D2E4EED23"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Manner of
				acknowledgment</header><text>The acknowledgment required by subsection (a)
				shall be communicated via written or electronic means, as the Secretary
				considers appropriate. Such electronic means may include communication via
				email.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="id051CE59316CD431D92A6A6AAB4902F5D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 51 of
			 such title is amended by inserting after the item related to section 5102 the
			 following new item:</text>
