			 <quote><short-title>Dale Long Emergency Medical Service
			 Providers Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section changed="deleted" committee-id="SSJU00" id="ID1bf1372c66dc4bfd8ffff69f85425b3d" reported-display-style="strikethrough"><enum>2.</enum><header>Benefits for
			 certain nonprofit emergency medical service providers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204 of title I of the Omnibus Crime
			 Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3796b) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="IDbba27627aef24e9884734e9df0a933e0"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (7),
			 by striking <quote>public employee member of a rescue squad or ambulance
			 crew</quote> and inserting “employee or volunteer member of a rescue squad or
			 ambulance crew (including a ground or air ambulance service) that—</text>
				<quoted-block changed="deleted" committee-id="SSJU00" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id87629E5A76C04F6FA750FBA98F8BD5B7" reported-display-style="strikethrough" style="OLC">
					<subparagraph id="id977029CE2D59404A9879F6C9CA4E1EFA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is a public
				agency; or</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id68D9DF7208F94EE29A42189AE76F9825"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is (or is a part
				of) a nonprofit entity serving the public that is officially authorized or
				licensed—</text>
						<clause id="idF675157D5B9E4AC0841A6E53C46FB468"><enum>(i)</enum><text>to engage in
				rescue activity or to provide emergency medical services; and</text>
						</clause><clause id="idAF78D0F2824B4AEEA35418308448F21B"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to respond to an
				emergency situation;</text>
						</clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>;
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="ID593ac1ec9c9240b4bc4940362b3a9f49"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph
			 (9)—</text>
				<subparagraph id="ID1bc69d3ce45e4233a42417a06789820e"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (A), by striking <quote>as a chaplain</quote> and all that follows through the
			 semicolon, and inserting <quote>or as a chaplain;</quote>;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID5d583b952db34f96b0263563ce1b98c0"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (B)(ii), by striking <quote>or</quote> after the semicolon;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID10c327d4e55243378ea811d7199da019"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (C)(ii), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID66e6bf2c3dda4b97bcaf4c9255bb8488"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>

				rescue squad or ambulance crew who, as authorized or licensed by law and by the
				applicable agency or entity, is engaging in rescue activity or in the provision
				of emergency medical
				services.</text>

			 date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 section 2(1) of this Act shall apply only to injuries sustained on or after
			 January 1, 2009.</text>

			 Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3796b) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="ID1f58928bf1784712bf3f9eafd5d8fc3c"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (7), by
			 striking <quote>public employee member of a rescue squad or ambulance
			 crew;</quote> and inserting “employee or volunteer member of a rescue squad or
			 ambulance crew (including a ground or air ambulance service) that—</text>

					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID62e73e9f802745e193df52ea486a4328"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is (or is a part of) a
				nonprofit entity serving the public that—</text>
						<clause id="ID72fa436573054eefbf4e9c04d6a25033"><enum>(i)</enum><text>is officially authorized
				or licensed to engage in rescue activity or to provide emergency medical
				services; and</text>
						</clause><clause id="ID7216e9411c2c4ba3a47f1c9825815385"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>is officially designated
				as a pre-hospital emergency medical response
				agency;</text>
						</clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>;
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="ID7ff2642ec35a4f428b2eedf49e907ac0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (9)—</text>
				<subparagraph id="ID2c98ff5606c64b6dad091537f5d4c9df"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by
			 striking <quote>as a chaplain</quote> and all that follows through the
			 semicolon, and inserting <quote>or as a chaplain;</quote>;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID706464412ca1420c87e0ef86bfb3841f"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B)(ii),
			 by striking <quote>or</quote> after the semicolon;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID3674d2f5bcaf464fb3fa429ff3888297"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C)(ii),
			 by striking the period and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID56bdc966f86144a58cffc680e2008d15"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by adding at the end the
			 following:</text>

				squad or ambulance crew who, as authorized or licensed by law and by the
				applicable agency or entity (and as designated by such agency or entity), is
				engaging in rescue activity or in the provision of emergency medical
				services.</text>
						</subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</subparagraph></paragraph></section><section changed="added" committee-id="SSJU00" id="id90FA2D81BA6442888C0CBDB43A3DA54E" reported-display-style="italic"><enum>3.</enum><header>Offset</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Of the unobligated balances available under
			 the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund, $5,000,000 are permanently
			 cancelled.</text>

			 date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by
