<whereas><text>Whereas current educational and economic trends indicate that the demand for employees with a high-quality mathematics education could exceed the supply of individuals with such an education;</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas students who pursue a postsecondary education in mathematics have a broad range of career choices upon graduation;</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas Mathematics Awareness Month began in 1986 as Mathematics Awareness Week;</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas April 2010, is recognized as Mathematics Awareness Month;</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas the theme for Mathematics Awareness Month 2010, “Mathematics and Sports”, highlights uses for an education in mathematics across a broad range of subjects and helps to show students the role of mathematics in their everyday lives and interests;</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas mathematics is found in sports in the forms of measurement, time, computation, fractions, statistics, and probability; and</text> </whereas>
<whereas><text>Whereas Mathematics Awareness Month encourages colleges, universities, and other organizations to hold events that draw and retain students to the field of mathematics: Now, therefore, be it</text> </whereas></preamble>

<paragraph id="H34D72C36B80B4749BEB82733F0D4F1E8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the goals and ideals of Mathematics Awareness Month;</text> </paragraph>
<paragraph id="H146AFC1D6B524EECBE7EFFA1E57776C7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages colleges, universities, and other organizations to hold events to honor Mathematics Awareness Month; and</text> </paragraph>
<paragraph id="H212C5DE083A142A883432620EAC78610"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports increased public awareness and appreciation for the importance of mathematics at all levels of the educational system in the United States.</text> </paragraph></section>
