		<section id="HEBD11904BDFB4EDE9BC18A4A400BED4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Education Savings Modernization Act of
			 2009</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H19E2FD525B444E8C8B29736D0200D38C"><enum>2.</enum><header>Modification of
			 annual contribution limit for Coverdell education savings accounts</header>
			<subsection id="H4FAD60546ECC43E69111E6D649CDE18F"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increase of
			 annual contribution limit</header><text>Subparagraph (A)(iii) of section
			 530(b)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (defining Coverdell education
			 savings account) is amended by striking <quote>$2,000</quote> and inserting
			 <quote>$4,000</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H95B6CE51E7ED4A6F8200C8AEBF021F1C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Inflation
			 adjustment</header><text>Subsection (b) of section 530 of such Code (relating
			 to definitions and special rules) is amended by adding at the end the following
			 new paragraph:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H731F527C9F334FA1AD9B79B0E1666594" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="H2C94449F65354740AC6E5CD9556700DB"><enum>(5)</enum><header>Inflation
				adjustment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of any
				taxable year beginning in a calendar year after 2009, the dollar amount
				contained in paragraph (1)(A)(iii) shall be increased by an amount equal
				to—</text>
						<subparagraph id="HB2696AAC77BB4FBEA73047DCB99445DE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>such dollar
				amount, multiplied by</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2D23DF6E3D4E4798ABCE7D99C8F24637"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the cost-of-living
				adjustment determined under section 1(f)(3) for the calendar year in which the
				taxable year begins, determined by substituting <quote>calendar year
				2008</quote> for <quote>calendar year 1992</quote> in subparagraph (B)
				thereof.</text>
						</subparagraph><continuation-text continuation-text-level="paragraph">Any
				increase determined under the preceding sentence shall be rounded to the
				nearest multiple of
				$100.</continuation-text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="H5C6F44791F4F422AA46B63DF943430C3"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Provisions made
			 permanent</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Title IX of the
			 Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (relating to sunset
			 of provisions of such Act) shall not apply to the amendments made by sections
			 401 and 402 of such Act.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H51D16313B7674C49A0A7DBA5318E3673"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable
			 years beginning after December 31, 2008.</text>
