		<official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend the
		  first-time homebuyer tax credit for members of the Armed Forces and certain
		  Federal employees serving on extended duty.</official-title>

		<section id="H6E9A478DFDAD4D5F9D8511BB546B7744" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Service Members’ Homebuyer Tax Credit
			 Extension Act 2009</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H4070855C55B14F209230D8A019FA35D1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of
			 first-time homebuyer credit for individuals on qualified official extended
			 duty</header>
			<subsection id="H664338BB519146AC9142A45D6938F168"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subsection (h) of
			 section 36 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="H3D4B4A41ADBF44ACA4001DDC71625C86"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>This section</quote> and inserting the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H28D8A06268BD4046BF9D07778DE091CB" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="H64631AA8C41F41C39D7961E2CEDADE73"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">This
				section</text>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>,
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H61BB327AEEB94D0B8D712D9E21C0A61E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following new paragraph:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HDFFAF6A3A9CA423197FB7ED09EE7E3D5" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="H2CD477073FE14D54AA88DB91DD1CF5C"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Special rule for
				qualified extended duty</header>
							<subparagraph id="H2A901AD2BAD74F3EBCC4DBB32C238776"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text>In the case of an individual who serves on qualified
				official extended duty outside the United States for at least 180 days in
				calendar year 2009—</text>
								<clause id="HB3416380792544EEA3ADB3EE1DA494F0"><enum>(i)</enum><text>paragraph (1)
				shall be applied by substituting <quote>December 1, 2010</quote> for
				<quote>December 1, 2009</quote>,</text>
								</clause><clause id="H30F4BF293D564E3BB700B2EAD22FA0D3"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>subparagraph (D)
				of subsection (f)(4) shall be applied by substituting <quote>December 1,
				2010</quote> for <quote>December 1, 2009</quote>, and</text>
								</clause><clause id="HEDF90120E00C43E38BEFC8C7407C25D5"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>in the case of a
				purchase of a principal residence after December 31, 2009, and before December
				1, 2010, the taxpayer may elect to treat such purchase as made on December 31,
				2009, for purposes of this section (other than subsections (c) and
				(f)(4)(D)).</text>
								</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD2EB60980FFC450DA587785FD3D7CDF5"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Qualified
				official extended duty</header><text>For purposes of subparagraph (A), the term
				<quote>qualified official extended duty</quote> means qualified official
				extended duty (as defined in section 121(d))—</text>
								<clause id="H05B37CDC3F22456884D643E443A573DD"><enum>(i)</enum><text>as
				a member of the uniformed services,</text>
								</clause><clause id="HA985F7DBD6B349AC95FB98115F08BA36"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>as a member of
				the Foreign Service of the United States, or</text>
								</clause><clause id="H8B4C72B75074487FA458D3EAF5BF6DFC"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>as an employee
				of the intelligence community.</text>
								</clause><continuation-text continuation-text-level="subparagraph">Any
				term used in the preceding sentence which is also used in paragraph (9) of
				section 121(d) shall have the same meaning as when used in such
				paragraph.</continuation-text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1139ADF6634B47C69BE1E9CF341300FE"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming
			 amendment</header><text>Paragraph (4) of section 1400C(e) of such Code is
			 amended by striking <quote>December 1, 2009</quote> and inserting
			 <quote>December 31, 2009</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H1EEB48E3CBC2470E846BE63C31E2A1FF"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to purchases
			 made after November 30, 2009.</text>
