		<official-title>To amend the Act of June 18, 1934, to reaffirm the
		  authority of the Secretary of the Interior to take land into trust for Indian
		  tribes.</official-title>

		<section id="HC9F02825453B4671884E1FE7C12396E3" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Modification of
			 definition</header>
			<subsection id="HBE6507E65E1343FA9DCFF84DB24F2F9B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 19 of the Act
			 of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian Reorganization
			 Act</quote>) (25 U.S.C. 479), is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HF95FB319BF824AC6A93A48297F3285A5"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the first sentence—</text>
					<subparagraph id="HAFBEA18734604EA2876168C1F08E4E3C"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>The term</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>Effective beginning on June 18, 1934, the term</quote>;
			 and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H418B9BFD6AA6460DABEADD3BC9686D4C"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>any recognized Indian
			 tribe now under Federal jurisdiction</quote> and inserting <quote>any federally
			 recognized Indian tribe</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H4C8164899F0642D7A9BAA18B35512B21"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the
			 third sentence and inserting the following: <quote>In this Act, the terms
			 <term>Indian tribe</term> and <term>tribe</term> mean any Indian or Alaska
			 Native tribe, band, nation, pueblo, village, or community, that the Secretary
			 of the Interior acknowledges to exist as an Indian tribe.</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9638B12D32C141D3AD82AA8A4FACE0A1"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect as
			 if included in the Act of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian
			 Reorganization Act</quote>) (25 U.S.C. 479), on the date of enactment of that
			 Act.</text>
