		<official-title>To amend the Act of June 18, 1934, to reaffirm the
		  authority of the Secretary of the Interior to take land into trust for Indian
		  tribes.</official-title>

		<section id="H563D4C714186499E84E3E01475F6A6A5" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Modification of
			 definition</header>
			<subsection id="H60F804317DEB492B80B4EEB62BB2E978"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 19 of the Act
			 of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian Reorganization
			 Act</quote>) (25 U.S.C. 479), is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HAB27EBBB98EF4FD9AEF786C945682EC6"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the first sentence—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H0680BCD1DF634D94A200D142202282B3"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>The term</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>Effective beginning on June 18, 1934, the term</quote>;
			 and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H56C879C3407D44E4002E1B96E6CFC61"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>any recognized Indian
			 tribe now under Federal jurisdiction</quote> and inserting <quote>any federally
			 recognized Indian tribe</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HAD6B512557094986BEBDD7587CB48BE3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the
			 third sentence and inserting the following: <quote>In this section, the term
			 ‘Indian tribe’ means any Indian or Alaska Native tribe, band, nation, pueblo,
			 village, or community that the Secretary of the Interior acknowledges to exist
			 as an Indian tribe.</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HC7789E03DF784A0E8DE88940F346CAC3"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect as
			 if included in the Act of June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the <quote>Indian
			 Reorganization Act</quote>) (25 U.S.C. 479), on the date of enactment of that
			 Act.</text>
