		<official-title>To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to carry out
		  demonstration projects related to providing care for veterans in rural
		  areas.</official-title>

		<section id="H4D83F39E8FCF4EF8880ECE4F0C7ED963" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Demonstration projects on
			 alternatives for expanding care for veterans in rural areas</header>
			<subsection id="HF3D1A26F522047EC9D0073B502E0F1B6"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 General</header><text>The Secretary of Veterans Affairs, through the Director
			 of the Office of Rural Health, shall carry out demonstration projects to
			 examine the feasibility and advisability of alternatives for expanding care for
			 veterans in rural areas, including the following:</text>
				<paragraph id="H009D1781FE36466EBBC44F7766041E4D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Establishing a
			 partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Centers for
			 Medicare and Medicaid Services of the Department of Health and Human Services
			 to coordinate care for veterans in rural areas at critical access hospitals (as
			 designated or certified under section 1820 of the Social Security Act (42
			 U.S.C. 1395i–4)).</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H0F77EA59BF31430491157379D7AA93B1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Establishing a
			 partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of
			 Health and Human Services to coordinate care for veterans in rural areas at
			 community health centers.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HBA8B16C654D344E7A486384AE49AA90B"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Expanding
			 coordination between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Indian Health
			 Service to expand care for Indian veterans.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HABBFF405B2CD4B2292DF2D63A2324BED"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Geographic
			 Distribution</header><text>The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall ensure that
			 the demonstration projects carried out under subsection (a) are located at
			 facilities that are geographically distributed throughout the United
			 States.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H28C44203E1644D5282799D4D1BEBC863"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not
			 later than two years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary
			 of Veterans Affairs shall submit a report on the results of the demonstration
			 projects conducted under subsection (a) to—</text>
				<paragraph id="H788B374FADF143128580D102CE250108"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Committee on
			 Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H9DC12EA59A1B476090D30D71A6E8AFC5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Committee on
			 Veterans’ Affairs and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of
			 Representatives.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HE0EBF0BD0B34420FB7D0105BB65A00E6"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 Appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated
			 $350,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2009 through 2011 to carry out this
			 section.</text>
