<official-title display="yes">To amend title 5, United States Code, to provide for the transportation of the dependents, remains, and effects of certain Federal employees who die while performing official duties or as a result of the performance of official duties.<pagebreak/></official-title>

<section id="H8504C6CD2B2E4468BB6A3C50012B3B41" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>FBI Families of Fallen Heroes Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section>
<section id="HD57800CF344F49098B64EC126D90E200"><enum>2.</enum><header>Transportation of dependents, remains, and effects of certain Federal employees</header> 
<subsection id="HF38B58E477D14A3FA225ECC720F05A1B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subchapter II of chapter 57 of title 5, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 5724c the following:</text>

<section id="H06E66AFFFA83488D87D5819938BE9841"><enum>5724d.</enum><header>Transportation of dependents, remains, and effects of certain Federal employees</header> 
<subsection id="HD354611EAB7C457884AD04635D7BFE97"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Under regulations prescribed under section 5738 and to the extent that the Attorney General (or a designee) authorizes or approves, if an employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation dies while performing official duties or as a result of the performance of official duties, the Department of Justice may pay from Government funds—</text> 
<paragraph id="H936373CE60D64E7796D3D935E555BA89"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the qualified expenses of the immediate family of the employee, if the place where the family will reside following the death of the employee is—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H1A6CF7552C7D46C19056E83D5A85E85C"><enum>(A)</enum><text>different from the place where the family resided at the time of the employee’s death; and</text> </subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H5E9EEC0D52A54E20B1EF1BE087F1FBAA"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">within the <deleted-phrase reported-display-style="strikethrough" committee-id="HGO00">continental</deleted-phrase> United States; and</text> </subparagraph></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HEDD420B7B5DB4B4283EC3991B5372C41"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the expenses of preparing and transporting the remains of the deceased to—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HC63EAA8679C548CE92E230D18C8DF950"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the place where the immediate family will reside following the death of the employee; or</text> </subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="HF15226A8C7F94D09BA54F2BEF402829D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>such other place, appropriate for interment, as is determined by the Attorney General (or designee).</text> </subparagraph></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="HC43A2508EB74484BB65E8E9E8A4016F0"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Qualified expenses</header><text>For purposes of this section, the term <term>qualified expenses</term>, as used with respect to a family changing its place of residence, means the moving expenses, transportation expenses, and relocation expenses of the family which are attributable to the change in place of residence.</text> </subsection>
<subsection id="H4803B11A07944621A49CF5394FC45E88"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>For purposes of this section—</text> 
<paragraph id="H26A9EDE88CAB49E5A248BCAF0ADD5B13"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the term <term>moving expenses</term>, as used with respect to a family, includes the expenses of transporting, packing, crating, temporarily storing, draying, and unpacking the household goods and personal effects of such family, not in excess of 18,000 pounds net weight; <added-phrase reported-display-style="italic" committee-id="HGO00">and</added-phrase></text> </paragraph>
<paragraph id="H281594ECBF5F4451A9E47291DD6B7F4E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the term <term>relocation expenses</term> has the meaning given such term under regulations prescribed under section 5738, including relocation expenses and relocation services described in sections 5724a and 5724c, respectively<deleted-phrase reported-display-style="strikethrough" committee-id="HGO00">; and</deleted-phrase><added-phrase reported-display-style="italic" committee-id="HGO00">.”.</added-phrase></text> </paragraph>
<paragraph id="H365C4A66017D4341B40F928A80A7044D" reported-display-style="strikethrough" changed="deleted" committee-id="HGO00"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the term <term>continental United States</term> has the meaning given such term by section 5701(6).</text> </paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection>
<subsection id="H87808467C3BF494CB445DB0BAD9C15EA"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The analysis for chapter 57 of title 5, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 5724c the following:</text>
