		<official-title>To amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for a
		  health survey regarding Native Hawaiians and other Pacific
		  Islanders.</official-title>

		<section id="H38C03F37114F4C2D84934807A5B709BC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander Health Survey
			 Act of 2009</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H2D188DFED11E49A69535C2923C0A84CB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Native Hawaiian
			 and other Pacific Islander health survey</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Part B of title III of the Public Health
			 Service Act (42 U.S.C. 243 et seq.) is amended by inserting after section 317T
			 the following:</text>

				<section id="H777E49A6BF86475FBCA0723E6F27D7F9"><enum>317U.</enum><header>Native
				Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander health survey</header>
					<subsection id="H73266F5407974112B56D1A8AA0EF3BD6"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall
				award a contract or grant to an entity to develop and conduct a health survey
				regarding Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders in the 50 States, the
				District of Columbia, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
				Islands, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall
				Islands, and the Republic of Palau—</text>
						<paragraph id="H02296E926290463188351839DDA081FF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to identify the
				unmet health and health care needs of such Native Hawaiians and other Pacific
				Islanders; and</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="H2FCE81D50D9F4472B2893A10AC28F823"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to establish
				baseline health information (to the extent such information is lacking) to
				achieve equity in health information for the Native Hawaiian and other Pacific
				Islander community.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HB41D8202E41B4AADADCF3A3C4CD2064D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Targeting of
				data collection</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Efforts to
				collect data pursuant to this section shall be targeted to those States, the
				District of Columbia, territories, and affiliated Pacific jurisdictions with
				the highest concentrations of Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders
				based on the regular decennial census conducted for 2010.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="HB0129E1867B547BA903D510FF96FEBF3"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Analysis</header><text>The
				Secretary shall award a contract or grant to an entity—</text>
						<paragraph id="H29E21C3A862F45FCBAA2380C5AC531CD"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to analyze and
				prepare the data collected under this section for distribution; and</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="H722C5DB110004044970BD6352BEE8080"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to submit the
				data, analysis, and any corresponding documents to the National Center for
				Health Statistics for internal review.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HAC5C60C6FB2E473F9DE458BEB7134085"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Public
				availability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary
				shall, to the extent appropriate, make publically available the data, measures,
				and analysis collected or generated pursuant to this section.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="H31D39FE9AA6A43998ED3F11077FED337"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not
				later than the end of fiscal year 2015, the Secretary shall submit a report to
				the Congress on the activities carried out under this section and the data,
				measures, and analysis collected or generated pursuant to this section.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="H36AE60544B33499F90803B4C5690BDD7"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Authorization of
				appropriations</header><text>To carry out this section, there are authorized to
				be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for the period of fiscal years
				2010 through 2015, of which not less than $8,000,000 shall be for carrying out
				subsection
				(c).</text>
