		<official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend the
		  first-time homebuyer credit for one year for members of the Armed Services of
		  the United States serving outside the United States in 2009.</official-title>

		<section id="H0243D6BEAE2C4B6EBD82C3577F8DB339" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Service Members Home Ownership Act of
			 2009</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H116A96561FD34AD2A0BC8AAB469DA81E" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of
			 first-time homebuyer credit for members of the Armed Forces serving outside the
			 United States</header>
			<subsection id="H811D818AF5EA49AB93EA56E958B8F9E7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subsection (h) of
			 section 36 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HA834CBE4040949A88FFEC056CE72CC39"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>This section</quote> and inserting the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF3189E5C86F445F182E31485F29DD755" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="H3A515852725748C99CACA43EB40CA2A5"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">This
				section</text>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>,
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H9FAA29E857394440B5D18BE444E859F7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H85BA1020FB434A9F8BAC0C9F535D5ACC" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="H2E6A5F02223B48F59A2E7D76F88BE1F5"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Special rules
				for members of Armed Forces outside United States</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of an individual serving on
				qualified official extended duty outside of the United States as a member of
				the Armed Forces of the United States for a period in 2009 before December 1,
				2009, of not less than 90 days—</text>
							<subparagraph id="HF2C478C203BE4917A8BE1D9E286810CE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>paragraph (1)
				shall be applied by substituting <quote>December 1, 2010</quote> for
				<quote>December 1, 2009</quote>,</text>
							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H9C799C8E11BE44FB9FF2DA4CEEEFE2E4"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">subsection (f)(4)(D) shall be applied by
				substituting <quote>December 1, 2010</quote> for <quote>December 1,
				2009</quote>, and</text>
							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HDC7EFAFEA7B048329ABDBE1FCA823EA7"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in lieu of
				subsection (g), in the case of a purchase of a principal residence after
				November 30, 2009, and before December 1, 2010, the taxpayer may elect to treat
				such purchase as made on December 31, 2009, for purposes of this section (other
				than subsections (c) and (f)(4)(D)).</text>
							</subparagraph><continuation-text continuation-text-level="paragraph">For
				purposes of the preceding sentence, the term <term>qualified official extended
				duty</term> has the meaning given such term by section
				121(d)(9).</continuation-text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HD264467854274A9B83E63122B1D79641"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Coordination
			 with first-time homebuyer credit for District of
			 Columbia</header><text>Paragraph (4) of section 1400C(e) of such Code is
			 amended by inserting <quote>(December 1, 2010, in the case of a purchase
			 subject to section 36(h)(2))</quote> after <quote>December 1, 2009</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HB377389377B24C97BF1561A9DE80A487"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to
			 residences purchased after November 30, 2009.</text>
