		<official-title>To amend title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe
		  Streets Act of 1968 to include nongovernmental and volunteer firefighters,
		  ground and air ambulance crew members, and first responders for certain
		  benefits.</official-title>

		<section id="H5C924266E0464149B83316586E2B2C4C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Benefits for certain
			 nongovernmental emergency service officers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204 of title I of the Omnibus Crime
			 Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3796b) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="H6115401632244E34A639B39BF38DC979"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (7)
			 by striking <quote>employee</quote> and inserting <quote>or nongovernmental
			 employee or volunteer</quote>; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HA4B26552CD264651A1167CE16C77C21F"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (9)—</text>
				<subparagraph id="HBF44CCD07A8149FABEEE6DB683792228"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (B)(ii), by striking <quote>or</quote> after the semicolon;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H74BA9314551F4056925BD22CAAD1494D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (C)(ii), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; or</quote>;
			 and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB4CA39FABFF043CABE5838B89076FB4C"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>

						<subparagraph id="H6594290345F24949B0DBE49B6973E0B2"><enum>(D)</enum><text>a nongovernmental
				employee or volunteer—</text>
							<clause id="HDE50C7EB60DF4008840A1CF94C7381BC"><enum>(i)</enum><text>of
				a fire department, ground or air ambulance service, or first responder or
				rescue squad, which is licensed or recognized by the State or local government;
				and</text>
							</clause><clause id="H614302292C23437CBE3AFA9942A8432E"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>who is performing
				official duties serving the public in fire suppression, rescue, or emergency
				medical and ambulance
				services.</text>
