<official-title>To ensure that an employer has the freedom to implement English in the workplace policies.</official-title>

<section id="H3D4F736E23DC4306A26DF98ED5C48A8E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Common Sense English Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H347C9A39E6CD4600A2F9112529D22A01"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress finds that—</text> 
<paragraph id="H88489AF43D73424AAE398B0FB348B3FA"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">throughout the history of the United States, English has been the common thread to unify the American people much as they are united under one flag;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HD1EC1559F5FF44CA9579567E008E21C8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Americans overwhelmingly believe that it is very important for people living in the United States to speak and understand English;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HB1838A9EAB7A42F6AE1DBC2A6D68D10F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>there is vast support among the American people to allow a company the freedom to implement English in the workplace policies; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H1F15C34073F1407CB5F6C433A2B29826"><enum>(4)</enum><text>when a group of employees speaks a language other than English in the workplace, it may cause misunderstandings, create dangerous circumstances, and undermine morale.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="H853AFCE3581D4ADDA05C65962F46A557"><enum>3.</enum><header>Requirement of English language permissible</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 703 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000e–2) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text> 
<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD96B7695CDC94C7DB1A0335F8496D1C9" style="traditional"> 
<subsection id="H251965D429954C3B8156906E647F3E6C"><enum>(o)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, it shall not be an unlawful employment practice for an employer to require employees to speak English while engaged in work.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section>
