		<official-title>To resolve the claims of the Bering Straits Native
		  Corporation and the State of Alaska to land adjacent to Salmon Lake in the
		  State of Alaska and to provide for the conveyance to the Bering Straits Native
		  Corporation of certain other public land in partial satisfaction of the land
		  entitlement of the Corporation under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement
		  Act.</official-title>

		<section id="H12B79E54041A4D4EA0F6921C0075A4E8" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Salmon Lake Land Selection Resolution
			 Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H0719FC77D0A14C71B602618345A1CFBB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings;
			 purpose</header>
			<subsection id="HE9DB3FC1E42D4EED91C1F8519256CF9E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Findings</header><text>Congress
			 finds that—</text>
				<paragraph id="H1DBF292455C64C8D9F5B10C7D6AF5907"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Salmon Lake and
			 the water upstream and downstream from Salmon Lake contain important fisheries
			 resources of significance to Alaska Natives in the Bering Straits Region and
			 other residents of the State of Alaska;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF0CB90CF70B64D95B256B965569C00F3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>certain land
			 adjacent to Salmon Lake on the Seward Peninsula within the Bering Straits
			 Region contains archaeological and cultural resources of significance to Alaska
			 Natives in the Bering Straits Region, other residents of the State, and the
			 citizens of the United States;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HD8A94706C7EF4A07B100EDC157FDD01D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>land adjacent to
			 Salmon Lake on the Seward Peninsula within the Bering Straits Region offers,
			 and is suitable for, a variety of recreational activities;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H825388B7989B4A0584F5242C1EC300E0"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the State of
			 Alaska, acting under the Act of July 7, 1958 (commonly known as the
			 <quote>Alaska Statehood Act</quote>) (48 U.S.C. note prec. 21; Public Law
			 85–508), has selected land in the Salmon Lake area under section 6(b) of that
			 Act (72 Stat. 340);</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H060DAF54646A44D99DB1DC74F025A2A"><enum>(5)</enum><text>the Bering Straits
			 Native Corporation, an Alaska Native Regional Corporation formed under the
			 Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (43 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.), has selected land
			 in the Salmon Lake area under section 14(h)(8) of that Act (43 U.S.C.
			 1613(h)(8));</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HFE6B850A4AFE416B926038BB5B96658E"><enum>(6)</enum><text>the Bering Straits
			 Native Corporation and the State of Alaska have conflicting selections to
			 certain land in the Salmon Lake area;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H7AD9AA61DADF4E01951DBA2EA2A9FE55"><enum>(7)</enum><text>the Secretary of
			 the Interior, the State, and the Bering Straits Native Corporation have
			 concluded that it is in the interest of those parties—</text>
					<subparagraph id="HDA146A2FFB7344268154D041FC00A71E"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to protect and
			 preserve the historical, cultural, and natural resources of the Salmon Lake
			 area;</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H8BF712170B414CAAB5A2B7DE003FCA00"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to equitably
			 resolve, without further administrative appeals or litigation, the conflicting
			 land selections made—</text>
						<clause id="id5D67326B130244478EB0E272B8F11FC8"><enum>(i)</enum><text>by
			 the State under the Act of July 7, 1958 (commonly known as the <quote>Alaska
			 Statehood Act</quote>) (48 U.S.C. note prec. 21; Public Law 85–508); and</text>
						</clause><clause id="id7EF6D2A956D4423ABC2D11696A3FCE92"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>by
			 the Bering Straits Native Corporation in the Salmon Lake area under section
			 14(h)(8) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (43 U.S.C. 1613(h)(8));
			 and</text>
						</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB4DF0AF633B542918BA48C659676A67F"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to provide
			 simultaneously for—</text>
						<clause id="H00425B50896842118FB5D1B555051C8"><enum>(i)</enum><text>continued public
			 ownership, management, use, and access to certain land in the Salmon Lake
			 area;</text>
						</clause><clause id="H9C7EBB0E5E7F497CAC49BA83666E366D"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>conveyance to the
			 State of certain land in the Salmon Lake area in partial satisfaction of the
			 entitlement of the State under section 6(a) of the Act of July 7, 1958 (48
			 U.S.C. note prec. 21; Public Law 85–508); and</text>
						</clause><clause id="H400CE1E604934899BA6E53BE7EA3C58E"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>conveyance to
			 the Bering Straits Native Corporation of certain land in the Salmon Lake area
			 and other areas of the Bering Straits Region in partial satisfaction of the
			 land allocation of the Corporation under section 14(h)(8) of the Alaska Native
			 Claims Settlement Act (43 U.S.C. 1613(h)(8)); and</text>
						</clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H694D612BD69042DC9E9DD8E8AE641337"><enum>(8)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">legislation is required to ratify the
			 agreement among the Secretary of the Interior, the State, and the Bering
			 Straits Native Corporation to resolve the conflicting land selections made by
			 the State and the Bering Straits Native Corporation.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H54E2045469774026BCE2C6E8BA2D4512"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Purpose</header><text>The
			 purpose of this Act is to ratify the Salmon Lake Area Land Ownership and
			 Consolidation Agreement entered into by the Secretary, the State of Alaska, and
			 the Bering Straits Native Corporation.</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="id2874BA78144F4227AC527D71092CBC28"><enum>3.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text>
			<paragraph id="idF59B83E506904B0D81E7EBD8C286D591"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Agreement</header><text>The
			 term <term>Agreement</term> means the document—</text>
				<subparagraph id="id6D0269C08D624C04A569BBDA36264C83"><enum>(A)</enum><text>entitled
			 <quote>Salmon Lake Area Land Ownership and Consolidation
			 Agreement</quote>;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idEF8269952BA54D74BFDC4E19EBC15CD9"><enum>(B)</enum><text>executed by the
			 Secretary, the State, and the Bering Straits Native Corporation on July 18,
			 2007; and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id86F173C750A548DA884DB2EDFF5857FB"><enum>(C)</enum><text>on file
			 with—</text>
					<clause id="idF131081DA0DE481391B5A3F417F59BA9"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the
			 Department of the Interior;</text>
					</clause><clause id="id17B4B699516C45BDA541253BFC1E1FF5"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>the Committee on
			 Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate; and</text>
					</clause><clause id="id9212A3B3693D4B95B322A7A1F24257AC"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>the Committee
			 on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives.</text>
					</clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id7AA7CDCC7A894B0696069B9C774415BE"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The
			 term <term>Secretary</term> means the Secretary of the Interior.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="id1ECF6E605C4C4D8CA382A302F9C7C1BF"><enum>(3)</enum><header>State</header><text>The
			 term <term>State</term> means the State of Alaska.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="ID06ecd5445c15478bb1c6423b399c5247"><enum>4.</enum><header>Ratification of
			 Agreement</header>
			<subsection id="ID6fe22758d29b46d0ac6fcdbf3fb7181e"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Ratification</header>
				<paragraph id="ID2dcad85ecab34f29b39f5461276b4f15"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Congress approves, ratifies, and incorporates by
			 reference the Agreement.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="ID1c8d5b3d20e040e9b55b512f890e1076"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Conflict</header><text>Subject
			 to valid existing rights, if any term of the Agreement conflicts with any other
			 provision of law, the terms of the Agreement shall control.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID42c7c43e36ab438e87a2dbf62140e789"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization</header><text>The
			 Secretary may carry out all actions permitted or required under the
			 Agreement.</text>
			</subsection></section></legis-body>
