			 not affect the composition, or preclude the service, of any grand or petit jury
			 summoned, impaneled, or actually serving in the United States District Court
			 for the Western District of Tennessee on the effective date of this
			 section.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDdc8567efbec440d1af2c1ce2cc087790" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>3.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Supplemental attendance fee for petit
			 jurors serving on lengthy trials</header>
			<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id45F428DB4CFF47E2AF083B1CE6B2F006"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/28/1871">Section 1871(b)(2)</external-xref> of title 28, United
			 States Code, is amended by striking <quote>thirty</quote> in each place it
			 occurs and inserting <quote>ten</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id34F98626E38C439AAAB87F74B63115F5"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Effective
			 date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 this section shall take effect on October 1, 2009.</text>

			 title 28, United States Code, is amended in the first sentence—</text>

			 inserting <quote>may</quote>; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idDF004D62721D4DA69B1FA7BEEA7702FB"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>his</quote>.</text>

			 wheel</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1864(a) of
			 title 28, United States Code, is amended—</text>
				<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID851cd5967fbf44f4965d284c3ecff598"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the first sentence, by striking
			 <quote>publicly</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID54ff2c2925f4472185cdd80b56092e43"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting <quote>The clerk or jury
			 commission shall post a general notice for public review in the clerk's office

			 <quote>publicly</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDb05f4a970bc749a494281ca081449b72"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting <quote>The clerk or jury

			<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id418DBAA16D4F4562B1B4865D9516E8FA"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (2), by striking <quote>of the
			 court reporter for all or any part of the stenographic transcript</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>for printed or electronically recorded transcripts</quote>;
			 and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idC3528A30222E482BA3B287255D54D6CA"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (4), by striking <quote>copies
			 of papers</quote> and inserting <quote>the costs of making copies of any

			<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id86EE503945FC4C4D869EAE92172266E8"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In General</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/28/129">Chapter 129</external-xref> of title 28, United States
			 Code, is amended by inserting after section 2044 the following:</text>

					<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID22984ebe82b749e7ac3aa4c4048a687a" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2045.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Investment of court registry funds</header>
						<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDdb8f2ef5e49045b2a02ac74c8c6f64cd"><enum>(a)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Director of the Administrative Office
				of the United States Courts, or the Director's designee under subsection (b),
				may request the Secretary of the Treasury to invest funds received under
				section 2041 in public debt securities with maturities suitable to the needs of
				the funds, as determined by the Director or the Director's designee, and
				bearing interest at a rate determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, taking
				into consideration current market yields on outstanding marketable obligations
				of the United States of comparable maturity.</text>
						</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDff7eeb9ee9ba4a178c397f40ce10f509"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Director may designate the clerk of a
				court described in section 610 to exercise the authority conferred by
				subsection
				(a).</text>

			 sections for <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/28/129">chapter 129</external-xref> of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding
			 at the end the following:</text>

			 title 28, United States Code, is amended in the first sentence by inserting
			 <quote>magistrate,</quote> after <quote>district,</quote>.</text>
		</section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDbb0d61e7a5064249a9a4bab0ed13502b" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>10.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Selection of chief pretrial services
			 officers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3152 of title
			 18, United States Code, is amended by striking subsection (c) and inserting the
			 following:</text>

				<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID6d250024862d4b469965cc54c298d749"><enum>(c)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The pretrial services established under
				subsection (b) of this section shall be supervised by a chief pretrial services
				officer appointed by the district court. The chief pretrial services officer
				appointed under this subsection shall be an individual other than one serving
				under authority of section 3602 of this
				title.</text>

		</section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID29764a6f54b3430d8679d34031062931" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>11.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Attorney case compensation maximum
			 amounts</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3006A(d)(2) of
			 title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding <quote>The compensation
			 maximum amounts provided in this paragraph shall increase simultaneously by the
			 same percentage, rounded to the nearest multiple of $100, as the aggregate
			 percentage increases in the maximum hourly compensation rate paid pursuant to
			 paragraph (1) for time expended since the case maximum amounts were last
			 adjusted.</quote> at the end.</text>
