		<official-title>To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide
		  for an increase in the Federal minimum wage.</official-title>

		<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short
			 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as
			 the <quote><short-title>Fair Minimum Wage Act of
			 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="idD2AA089FD64847039EEE5298D24E24E9"><enum>2.</enum><header>Minimum
			 wage</header>
			<subsection id="id17D9B7C4B1644A0DA4A23C1AF3FAA37D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Section 6(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938
			 (29 U.S.C. 206(a)(1)) is amended to read as follows:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id78539ECB14964FEB96EDE43B50D7357B" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="id64AB703E267E447184E77CC13E94372F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>except as
				otherwise provided in this section, not less than—</text>
						<subparagraph id="id51E993EACD894B0688EAFEAF8DB8E4EB"><enum>(A)</enum><text>$5.85 an hour,
				beginning on the 60th day after the date of enactment of the Fair Minimum Wage
				Act of 2007;</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idA6891FFD2E1744EA82892652811262EB"><enum>(B)</enum><text>$6.55 an hour,
				beginning 12 months after that 60th day; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idADC562484992422BBC58F1A8AB73912E"><enum>(C)</enum><text>$7.25 an hour,
				beginning 24 months after that 60th
				day;</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="id8F59D1E6FB90440CA620301824723E2E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect 60
			 days after the date of enactment of this Act.</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="id54F53983533940E7A3B799E0964D5979"><enum>3.</enum><header>Applicability of
			 minimum wage to the commonwealth of the northern mariana islands</header>
			<subsection id="id8A9C4CA0A6C9477AB922B0502A1D80F7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29
			 U.S.C. 206) shall apply to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
			 Islands.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="id3FF99258C7014BD3B82CE632C338A632"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Transition</header><text>Notwithstanding
			 subsection (a), the minimum wage applicable to the Commonwealth of the Northern
			 Mariana Islands under section 6(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938
			 (29 U.S.C. 206(a)(1)) shall be—</text>
				<paragraph id="id312143B9712C40FDBDEE069B4B8A0E62"><enum>(1)</enum><text>$3.55 an hour,
			 beginning on the 60th day after the date of enactment of this Act; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="idAB2E90922C4A4098B517D7637E3352D5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>increased by
			 $0.50 an hour (or such lesser amount as may be necessary to equal the minimum
			 wage under section 6(a)(1) of such Act), beginning 6 months after the date of
			 enactment of this Act and every 6 months thereafter until the minimum wage
			 applicable to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands under this
			 subsection is equal to the minimum wage set forth in such section.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body>
