		<official-title>To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of
		  1965 to establish a partnership between the Department of Education and the
		  National Park Service to provide educational opportunities for students and
		  teachers, and for other purposes.</official-title>

			 Partnership Program</header>
			<subsection id="H16FDF40E7F9941418233A77DE84F90C7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Program
			 authorized</header>
				<paragraph id="H0AC2659C44D845F0AC4187E1974434FB"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Part D of title V of the Elementary and Secondary
			 Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 7241 et seq.) is amended by adding at the end
			 the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFDF62B1F30AF486EAE74C6E2916494B6" style="OLC">
						<subpart id="H915CA0CF203F4587848F13C500F772B8"><enum>22<?LEXA-Enum 22?></enum><header>National Park Ranger School Partnerships</header>
							<section id="HF0C50584D69C4877A290856BC1C24EB0"><enum>5621.</enum><header>Program
				authorized</header>
								<subsection id="HCBEA175E4F9D437E89AE2967621784EC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary, in
				cooperation with the Director of the National Park Service, may award grants,
				on a competitive basis, to local educational agencies to enable the local
				educational agencies to carry out the authorized activities described in
				subsection (c).</text>
								</subsection><subsection id="id888323949DF347FABD447B919F51FC84"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Required
				partnership</header><text>A local educational agency that receives a grant
				under this subpart shall carry out the activities described in subsection (c)
				through a partnership that includes the National Park Service and may include a
				not-for-profit partner of the National Park Service.</text>
								</subsection><subsection id="H1C043AA307D3452FB9607330269443E6"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Authorized
				activities</header><text>A local educational agency shall use funds provided
				under this subpart to carry out, through the partnership, both of the following
				activities:</text>
									<paragraph id="HFBFA5B1B9FB54D3EA06F1DC9F5BD7F9B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Providing, for
				students in kindergarten through grade 12, educational programs (including
				programs under which instruction is provided by National Park Service Rangers)
				that emphasize science, the environment, natural resources, mathematics,
				history, and civics.</text>
									</paragraph><paragraph id="H77C66B5C576A4BDBAAB4CF0352C91103"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Providing, for
				educators of students in kindergarten through grade 12, professional
				development opportunities (such as summer institutes) that emphasize science,
				the environment, natural resources, mathematics, history, and civics.</text>
									</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HFE667A37603A4CACAAAC66D97EF18057"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Duration and
				amounts</header><text>Each grant under this subpart shall be for a period of 3
				years, for an aggregate amount of not more than $25,000.</text>
								</subsection><subsection id="HC6D0EDFE0F484FFD8DD5C300241FAA9B"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Eligibility</header><text>To
				be eligible to receive a grant under this subpart, a local educational agency
				shall—</text>
									<paragraph id="H8ED4AFA6970A4998B57E66C0CA545568"><enum>(1)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id42AAB76A25764065B6659BDE035A9DC0"><enum>(A)</enum><text>be adjacent to a
				facility of the National Park Service;</text>
										</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id729B87B713C2482D829E522824877108" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>be close to a Research and Learning
				Center of the National Park Service;</text>
										</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id02A1C993D7C44AFBBE0FD6BAD3FEF5C1" indent="up1"><enum>(C)</enum><text>have a partnership with or be capable
				of partnering with a unit of the National Park System; or</text>
										</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idC17E648F587840DFB3BCE53264118CEA" indent="up1"><enum>(D)</enum><text>have, or agree to develop, a
				technology-based distance learning link to the National Park Service;</text>
										</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H08892F107AEA47F8806BCEB417A82426"><enum>(2)</enum><text>be identified for
				improvement under subsection (c) of section 1116; and</text>
									</paragraph><paragraph id="H981733DA745B4CD58372A70078A977DC"><enum>(3)</enum><text>be a high need
				local educational agency.</text>
									</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HECEB100F2D15403180FC4D88003260B3"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Criteria</header><text>Grants
				under this subpart shall be awarded on a competitive basis using criteria
				established by the Secretary, in collaboration with the Director of the
				National Park Service.</text>
								</subsection><subsection id="H58AF7291DBFD4348B4C28BA0182B6F00"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Reports by
				grantees</header><text>Upon completing the grant period for a grant under this
				section, the local educational agency receiving the grant shall submit to the
				Secretary a report that identifies—</text>
									<paragraph id="id9C03E64848FD4B3BB38B4DE6BE132B9A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the number of
				students participating in the activities described in subsection (c)(1) that
				were carried out under the grant;</text>
									</paragraph><paragraph id="id58D595A6DC4B4CC2BD293EAF66DC875B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the achievement
				attained by those students in mathematics, science, and any other academic
				areas relevant to the activities carried out under the grant, as measured
				against benchmarks established by the Secretary, in coordination with the
				National Park Service;</text>
									</paragraph><paragraph id="HA6E1325436D340EB91CF7812EDA799BF"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the number of
				educators participating in the activities described in subsection (c)(2) that
				were carried out under the grant; and</text>
									</paragraph><paragraph id="id0ACEA27EA9A645C39F6652E1F3C60ADB"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the professional
				development received by those educators in mathematics, science, civics, and
				any other academic areas relevant to the activities carried out under the
				grant.</text>
									</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9BE57F6A5D7847EB9CA0AF7200D79993"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Report by
				Secretary</header><text>Not later than 3 years after the date of enactment of
				this section, the Secretary, in coordination with the Director of the National
				Park Service, shall submit a report to Congress on the implementation of this
				subpart. The report shall include recommendations on whether and to what extent
				the program should be continued or
				expanded.</text>
								</subsection></section></subpart><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id6105B1D68965420698196582D5EAF47A"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Authorization
			 of appropriations</header><text>Section 5401 of that Act (20 U.S.C. 7241) is
			 amended—</text>
					<subparagraph id="id3E0B118CE542422EB45B0CE1CB141201"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>There are</quote> and inserting the following:</text>

				to carry out subpart 22, such sums as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008 and
				each of the 5 succeeding fiscal
				years.</text>

					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H1779CEFC2D8A40D6A2E2D62826001FF4"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text>The table of contents in section 2 of that Act (20
			 U.S.C. 6301 note) is amended by adding after the items relating to subpart 21
			 of part D of title V the following:</text>

			 Service eligibility for certain programs</header>
				<paragraph id="H71DD34149B6B470495A25DB855BE4169"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Mathematics and
			 science partnerships</header><text>Section 2201(b)(1)(B) of the Elementary and
			 Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 6661(b)(1)(B)) is amended—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H4F3AD6C145E843EAB910004E7BAEA357"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 clauses (iii) and (iv) as (iv) and (v), respectively; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H52FDCCC1F74A42A7A7673BBB67E7262F"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by adding after
			 clause (ii) the following:</text>

			 traditional american history</header><text>Section 2351(b) of that Act (20
			 U.S.C. 6721(b)) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
