		<official-title>To facilitate the part-time reemployment of annuitants,
		  and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="idE013FC9BD3AC403780A1F434734FA8E9" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Part-time
			 reemployment</header>
			<subsection id="ID30eee1edbfc140979a6eb3d233d9b634"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Civil service
			 retirement system</header><text>Section 8344 of title 5, United States Code, is
			 amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="ID84b02a5fae764cde97ef46664445aeb6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (l) as subsection (m);</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="IDd415cdc59e83402a98857503c4057b48"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 after subsection (k) the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idC337CA6597DC439F9AE5519CC333100A" style="OLC">
						<subsection id="IDe007ca9f70ef4142adc52ed14fc6c2e9"><enum>(l)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id1FF0FDFC874C490FBB88767FA19D4BAC"><enum>(1)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id75653477AFB646A6927E6E2E33B4CCA9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>For purposes of this
				subsection—</text>
									<clause id="id9339C3BAC65A4FCD9EDA446E44153AE9" indent="up2"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the term <term>agency</term>
				means—</text>
										<subclause id="id0C41A328AE5647C6B25FF9BBD7806964"><enum>(I)</enum><text>an Executive agency;</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="id6216CC31191F40E6B2DD5E3FA21CB773"><enum>(II)</enum><text>the United States Postal
				Service;</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="idE9BE93D7328E46A181BBE7778BD09C21"><enum>(III)</enum><text>the judicial branch; and</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="id448D6C70EE0343AA92ED872A4AF7BA6E"><enum>(IV)</enum><text>any employing entity covered by
				subsection (k); and</text>
										</subclause></clause><clause id="idCDDC0798F0CA4B57846C060020BDE446" indent="up2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>the term <term>limited time
				appointee</term> means an annuitant appointed under a temporary appointment
				limited to 1 year or less.</text>
									</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id4F1E54194AD7412489E29DC407FB4E26" indent="up2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>The head of an agency, in the case of
				an agency described in subclause (III) or (IV) of subparagraph (A)(i), shall be
				determined in the same manner as provided for under subsection (j) or (k),
				respectively.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id4A0D077B714944F4A568766F9F2F7E0D" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The head of any agency may waive the
				application of subsection (a) or (b) with respect to any annuitant who is
				employed in such agency as a limited time appointee.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="idAA14984772CE4BE988C8C1216855A416" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The head of any agency may not waive
				the application of subsection (a) or (b) with respect to an annuitant—</text>
								<subparagraph id="id7A785E29DD5D4D4B8B996470091617FA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>for more than 520 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during the period ending 6 months following the
				individual’s annuity commencing date;</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id5628E2E555BE4CF9A17BE8681132B4D6"><enum>(B)</enum><text>for more than 1040 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during any 12-month period; or</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id97B4357144084F00AFF9FDCA72E1E5D5"><enum>(C)</enum><text>for more than 6240 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during the individual’s lifetime.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id706BB058581547708C930208D9882618" indent="up1"><enum>(4)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="idC50EC78C8DA94AB5B4F8B5AF268D167F"><enum>(A)</enum><text>The Director of the
				Office of Personnel Management may promulgate regulations providing for the
				administration of this subsection.</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6C63734B09D4422D86F85E1135908E50" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Any regulations promulgated under
				subparagraph (A) may—</text>
									<clause id="id3C934CA36F1D4DABBC1DBB9090871F4D" indent="down1"><enum>(i)</enum><text>provide standards for the
				maintenance and form of necessary records of employment under this
				subsection;</text>
									</clause><clause id="idFB403B05147A45F794ED8D130BBD361B" indent="down1"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to the extent not otherwise
				expressly prohibited by law, require employing organizations to provide records
				of such employment to the Office of Personnel Management or other employing
				organizations as necessary to ensure compliance with paragraph (3);</text>
									</clause><clause id="idE5F11404FEC4449782B77E89B3E1E231" indent="down1"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>permit other administratively
				convenient periods substantially equivalent to 12 months, such as 26 pay
				periods, to be used in determining compliance with paragraph (3)(B); and</text>
									</clause><clause id="idF7874966B5E74FC9AA381661C9350C48" indent="down1"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>include such other administrative
				requirements as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management may find
				appropriate to provide for the effective operation of, or to ensure compliance
				with, this subsection.</text>
									</clause></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>;
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="IDb778f274a9534ec0b51614d2139a919a"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (m)
			 (as so redesignated)—</text>
					<subparagraph id="IDc114859cce83440cb5c30f1a1e7ed6e7"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in paragraph (1),
			 by striking <quote>(k)</quote> and inserting <quote>(l)</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDdad2e331f1b044809b97c5222ac0a9e5"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (2),
			 by striking <quote>or (k)</quote> and inserting <quote>(k), or
			 (l)</quote>.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="IDa93a863aa5c1439e8c22775ae9fab187"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Federal
			 employee retirement system</header><text>Section 8468 of title 5, United States
			 Code, is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="ID23a23fc5ecba4663ba4f46c0ce247756"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (i) as subsection (j);</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="ID4ac0300eb9a447258e8f0aae5864792d"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 after subsection (h) the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idA7DFC9CC291641C395F5D15C4ABE34CE" style="OLC">
						<subsection id="ID98e176a579214c9a8f5686af5bfeaf10"><enum>(i)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id153CDC4180AD4741B9753A2187B0C1A4"><enum>(1)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id3E33816489CE495889A8451BEF5BE15B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>For purposes of this
				subsection—</text>
									<clause id="id9365F237AB7F4916B9B7C377DA6B84B2" indent="up2"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the term <term>agency</term>
				means—</text>
										<subclause id="id8F0CC41E66BB47F4A1B2D8E578278C25"><enum>(I)</enum><text>an Executive agency;</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="id877FC725C1BA4D97B686D272033E0261"><enum>(II)</enum><text>the United States Postal
				Service;</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="idDEEE2E148C7949338012120C64EABFB8"><enum>(III)</enum><text>the judicial branch; and</text>
										</subclause><subclause id="id991B0EE591294DE6ACBF510C4E922FE6"><enum>(IV)</enum><text>any employing authority covered by
				subsection (h); and</text>
										</subclause></clause><clause id="idA71513F92A7842F0A30F0EE362DF6453" indent="up2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>the term <term>limited time
				appointee</term> means an annuitant appointed under a temporary appointment
				limited to 1 year or less.</text>
									</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id42438FDC177443E29A073213ABFE3698" indent="up2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>The head of an agency, in the case of
				an agency described in subclause (III) or (IV) of subparagraph (A)(i), shall be
				determined in the same manner as provided for under subsection (g) or (h),
				respectively; and</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="idC73D9F9461D047E5ACDC96652E3C72D9" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The head of any agency may waive the
				application of subsection (a) with respect to any annuitant who is employed in
				such agency as a limited time appointee.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="idD3310EE503154C06AEEE96E92DD45632" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The head of any agency may not waive
				the application of subsection (a) with respect to an annuitant—</text>
								<subparagraph id="idA5DD7AEB096648B38664FD49369D6A10"><enum>(A)</enum><text>for more than 520 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during the period ending 6 months following the
				individual’s annuity commencing date;</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id1B72E93960044B869FF9C40F4C0A3CF2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>for more than 1040 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during any 12-month period; or</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idEA91BA8FCD1F49A8BDF51D41C6A99754"><enum>(C)</enum><text>for more than 6240 hours of service
				performed by such annuitant during the individual’s lifetime.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id1BEAE64EA89B4621A12ADDC6B8FEE58D" indent="up1"><enum>(4)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="idCE78C4FEB3F743608359999FBC1E78BE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>The Director of the
				Office of Personnel Management may promulgate regulations providing for the
				administration of this subsection.</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id333D42DAB9CD490F8D1D57350E4D503B" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Any regulations promulgated under
				subparagraph (A) may—</text>
									<clause id="id2E44C55167404F0D93C376D7D024A6CF"><enum>(i)</enum><text>provide standards for the maintenance
				and form of necessary records of employment under this subsection;</text>
									</clause><clause id="idFFDC2247F72A4F94B9617BCC275A0EEA"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to the extent not otherwise expressly
				prohibited by law, require employing organizations to provide records of such
				employment to the Office or other employing organizations as necessary to
				ensure compliance with paragraph (3);</text>
									</clause><clause id="id1C968A51394840B9ABC51B2846E833FF"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>permit other administratively
				convenient periods substantially equivalent to 12 months, such as 26 pay
				periods, to be used in determining compliance with paragraph (3)(B); and</text>
									</clause><clause id="id6BF6019904E84E52A43DB413AC5F2A49"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>include such other administrative
				requirements as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management may find
				appropriate to provide for effective operation of, or to ensure compliance
				with, this subsection.</text>
									</clause></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>;
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="IDb0edd00e484347a3b799867191fad889"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (j)
			 (as so redesignated)—</text>
					<subparagraph id="ID2ba9dfd3c20a4c7d9321c149a871f17b"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in paragraph (1),
			 by striking <quote>(h)</quote> and inserting <quote>(i)</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID18c33954838c4c04bc5ea32cd20c1556"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (2),
			 by striking <quote>or (h)</quote> and inserting <quote>(h), or
			 (i)</quote>.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="IDf05fe1667f084590a7821116874ab111"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Technical and
			 conforming amendments</header><text>Section 1005(d)(2) of title 39, United
			 States Code, is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="ID92b638df9c3a4b9fbae165c9e0cefcf1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>(l)(2)</quote> and inserting <quote>(m)(2)</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="ID06ebbd7e046e4067903f9aac35d03c84"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>(i)(2)</quote> and inserting <quote>(j)(2)</quote>.</text>
