		<official-title>To amend the Federal Direct Loan Program to provide that
		  interest shall not accrue on Federal Direct Loans for active duty service
		  members and their spouses. </official-title>

		<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short
			 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as
			 the <quote><short-title>Interest Relief Act
			 </short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="idE5A212E3794449B4A79DF8B5591D0DF7"><enum>2.</enum><header>No accrual of
			 interest for active duty service members and their spouses</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 455 of the Higher Education Act of
			 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1087e) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idDCF145118B1642CAB7EB116F26423C08" style="OLC">
				<subsection id="id41972DAE51294BCAB30127D4498B7AF9"><enum>(m)</enum><header>No accrual of
				interest for active duty service members and their spouses</header>
					<paragraph id="id1516E30362C24333BFA548CC91EE8D24"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text>Notwithstanding any other provision of this part, and
				except as provided in paragraph (3), interest on a loan made under this part
				shall not accrue for an eligible borrower.</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="idF98C4FB75671457C8DB6CB7A74C4BC18"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Eligible
				borrower</header><text>In this subsection, the term <term>eligible
				borrower</term> means an individual—</text>
						<subparagraph id="idDDF7F58DFD234795B43EEAA53B76D1B5"><enum>(A)</enum><text>who is—</text>
							<clause id="idAE2250E18BF84873AB73A7F08CC14EE7"><enum>(i)</enum><text>serving on active
				duty during a war or other military operation or national emergency; or</text>
							</clause><clause id="idE2D3F783DE284FA3BE31241CD48660F7"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>performing
				qualifying National Guard duty during a war or other military operation or
				national emergency; or</text>
							</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6E227E901D7544D0B0C2BE1F83B72410"><enum>(B)</enum><text>who is the spouse
				of an individual described in subparagraph (A).</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id9A0F0520C58141D59DC893FE247FD34D"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text>An
				individual who qualifies as an eligible borrower under this subsection may
				receive the benefit of this subsection for not more than 60
				months.</text>
					</paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
