		<section id="idA17096CBED06474FBB2C78B9B679147D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Trafficking in Persons Accountability
			 Act of 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="idDD071FDB56BF4DC2A901FC15E9801FD7"><enum>2.</enum><header>Jurisdiction in
			 certain trafficking offenses</header>
			<subsection id="id674FEA672696473CBB96D225AD9106AB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/77">Chapter 77</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by
			 adding at the end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1BDE5747E96D44FDA19A331C0C2BDB59" style="USC">
					<section id="id350230E486FE4DC083D7F71C56B521DC"><enum>1596.</enum><header>Additional
				jurisdiction in certain trafficking offenses</header>
						<subsection id="id62AE2D10AACF4A53B6B2EAA9560972A8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In addition to any
				domestic or extra-territorial jurisdiction otherwise provided by law, the
				courts of the United States have extra-territorial jurisdiction over any
				offense (or any attempt or conspiracy to commit an offense) under section 1581,
				section 1583, section 1584, section 1589, section 1590, or section 1591 of this
				title if—</text>
							<paragraph id="idAD904355044440EEAF948161CF631555"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">an alleged offender is a national of the
				United States or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence (as those
				terms are defined in section 101 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8
				U.S.C. 1101)); or</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="idB311C95978EF43489F3D8B47D9AD4BEE"><enum>(2)</enum><text>an alleged
				offender is present in the United States, irrespective of the nationality of
				the alleged offender.</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id6DC62FB5B57D4203A298CBAE4E064088"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Limitation on
				prosecutions of offenses prosecuted in other countries</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No prosecution may be commenced against a
				person under this section if a foreign government, in accordance with
				jurisdiction recognized by the United States, has prosecuted or is prosecuting
				such person for the conduct constituting such offense, except upon the approval
				of the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General (or a person acting in
				either such capacity), which function of approval may not be
				delegated.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="idA3D63D8B29E94388A94BB8CA4F1619CB"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 77 of
			 title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the
			 following:</text>
