		<official-title>To provide for the protection of mail delivery on certain
		  postal routes, and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Mail
			 Delivery Protection</header>
			<subsection id="idD9BFB8E9493344CFBA14A3CC78A2F0F2"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Short
			 title</header><text>This Act may be cited as the
			 <short-title><quote><short-title>Mail
			 Delivery Protection Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</short-title></text>
			</subsection><subsection id="idA291ECDA17664BAB8FFB2B9CD50FAB81"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Mail Delivery
			 Protection</header><text>Section 5212 of title 39, United States Code, is
			 amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id4380CF250C6B40B7BF51D14E337952DA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting
			 <quote>(a)</quote> before <quote>The Postal Service may</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id48A48012EA05408080F4F0F38BF70E69"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id00F6F3EBD7F24993814365D0D9F8B421" style="OLC">
						<subsection id="id587D0EBAC215476086AA173E2A23D9CC"><enum>(b)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id6C73A17A77DF407EBA076886A7566EA5"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided under paragraph (2), the
				Postal Service may not enter into any contract under this section with any
				motor carrier or other person for the delivery of mail on any route with 1 or
				more families per mile.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="idED54D62094BF4413BF1B3CB7E6F4A9C6" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Notwithstanding paragraph (1)—</text>
								<subparagraph id="id261ED1091A114F61AF31AB791572D18B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>any contract described under that
				paragraph in effect on the date of enactment of the Mail Delivery Protection
				Act of 2007—</text>
									<clause id="idA8B63AAEA66C42C6B1566491C81D36D6"><enum>(i)</enum><text>shall remain in effect until
				terminated under the terms of such contract or as otherwise provided by law;
				and</text>
									</clause><clause id="idADB1054435E24B1DAA0259960E61A9D1"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>may be renewed 1 or more times;
				and</text>
									</clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id3E400F2AA407405F8749282D6A9464BE"><enum>(B)</enum><text>service on a rural route may be
				converted to contract delivery service when such route no longer serves a
				minimum of 1 family per
				mile.</text>
