		  Act to provide competitive status to certain Federal employees in the State of

		<section id="idA8E9CCB233B84BF19CCEE323187E84DD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Thomas P. O’Hara Public Land Career
			 Opportunity Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section changed="deleted" committee-id="SSEG00" id="IDEB14E943A372469A828328770879C485" reported-display-style="strikethrough"><enum>2.</enum><header>Competitive
			 status for certain Federal employees in the State of Alaska</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1308 of the Alaska National Interest
			 Lands Conservation Act (16 U.S.C. 3198) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="IDA20F706D2FA54C96A091264DE2393EBA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsections (c) and (d) as subsections (d) and (e), respectively; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="ID4F785A00365B4E598DF8698260B0ED2E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after
			 subsection (b) the following:</text>

					<subsection id="IDBB979AB40146450DBA487BC641D544FD"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Competitive
				Status</header><text>An individual appointed to a permanent position under
				subsection (a) shall be converted to competitive status after—</text>
						<paragraph id="idD86247F173764DEEA001F3EB51977387"><enum>(1)</enum><text>if the appointment
				is full time, the completion of 2 years of competitive and satisfactory full
				time service; or</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="idC18DA87D1120432BA542710EC1A1CE5F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>if the appointment
				is less than full time, the period that is equivalent to 2 years of competitive
				and satisfactory full time
				service.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph></section><section changed="added" committee-id="SSEG00" id="id994C8156A04C48AFB4A49C374A6DF139" reported-display-style="italic"><enum>2.</enum><header>Competitive status for
			 certain Federal employees in the State of Alaska</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1308 of the Alaska National Interest
			 Lands Conservation Act (16 U.S.C. 3198) is amended by adding at the end the
			 following:</text>

				<subsection id="id0ED702D46EC24AD888E276F00E2DBE51"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Competitive
				status</header>
					<paragraph id="idC8090ECCEAF141F89ADFAFED14DDD67D"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text>Nothing in subsection (a) provides that any person hired
				pursuant to the program established under that subsection is not eligible for
				competitive status in the same manner as any other employee hired as part of
				the competitive service.</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="IDdb95acf7d9364cea9c0f683def266e97"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Redesignation of
				certain positions</header>
						<subparagraph id="idD8CA4078FF9848BD97633CAD8BD42381"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Persons serving in
				original positions</header><text>Not later than 60 days after the date of
				enactment of this subsection, with respect to any person hired into a permanent
				position pursuant to the program established under subsection (a) who is
				serving in that position as of the date of enactment of this subsection, the
				Secretary shall redesignate that position and the person serving in that
				position as having been part of the competitive service as of the date that the
				person was hired into that position.</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDf6b8a2c3d8c54db294060da0b8c1b29a"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Persons no longer
				serving in original positions</header><text>With respect to any person who was
				hired pursuant to the program established under subsection (a) that is no
				longer serving in that position as of the date of enactment of this
				subsection—</text>
							<clause id="id3FD1BF456C1A4193A303B3D93BE81FB8"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the person may provide to
				the Secretary a request for redesignation of the service as part of the
				competitive service that includes evidence of the employment; and</text>
							</clause><clause id="id1625181DD856461597C72DBD5683A14E"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>not later than 90 days
				of the submission of a request under clause (i), the Secretary shall
				redesignate the service of the person as being part of the competitive
				service.</text>
							</clause></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
