			 <quote><short-title>Acadia National Park Improvement Act
			 of 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HDC6A7EED54A44AA500B4EDBED29754D6" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of land
			 conveyance authority</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section
			 102(d) of Public Law 99–420 (16 U.S.C. 341 note) is amended by striking
			 paragraph (2) and inserting the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6953179E50EF4197B8772455D8EEBB12" style="OLC">
				<paragraph id="IDa4907e7a216346e6bd843d4a7f220f0c"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Federally-owned
				property under jurisdiction of the Secretary referred to in paragraph (1) of
				this subsection shall be conveyed to the towns in which the property is located
				without encumbrance and without monetary consideration, except that no town
				shall be eligible to receive such lands unless lands within the Park boundary
				and owned by the town have been conveyed to the
				Secretary.</text>

			 National Park Advisory Commission</header>
			<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idB946F9EDDCAB437EA581829D382E48DF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 103(f) of
			 Public Law 99–420 (16 U.S.C. 341 note) is amended by striking <quote>20</quote>
			 and inserting <quote>40</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idB895BCD28B4C477889DCB530F9C43741"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect on
			 September 25, 2006.</text>
			</subsection></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3409D381E48644E1A8BC6E91718320C6" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>4.</enum><header>Increase in land
			 acquisition ceiling</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section
			 106(a) of Public Law 99–420 (16 U.S.C. 341 note) is amended by striking
			 <quote>$9,100,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$28,000,000</quote>.</text>
		</section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H0F7ED78DFBE44B74BBB0C317DD26BC4B" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>5.</enum><header>Intermodal
			 transportation center</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Title I
			 of Public Law 99–420 (16 U.S.C. 341 note) is amended by adding at the end the
			 following new section:</text>

				<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H0C40E930D9E84D37B3B43B97DE20E859" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>108.</enum><header>Intermodal
				transportation center</header>
					<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFD0A111768884FBE9E46B1D7B45262DB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary
				<deleted-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="strikethrough">shall</deleted-phrase><added-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="italic">may</added-phrase>
				provide assistance in the planning, construction, and operation of an
				intermodal transportation center located outside of the boundary of the Park in
				the town of Trenton, Maine to improve the management, interpretation, and
				visitor enjoyment of the Park.</text>
					</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA4EC49754A9B4923B36DC39551DAEF55"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Agreements</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">To carry out subsection (a), in
				administering the intermodal transportation center, the Secretary may enter
				into interagency agreements with other Federal agencies,
				<deleted-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="strikethrough">and cooperative
				agreements</deleted-phrase><added-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="italic">and, notwithstanding chapter 63 of title 31,
				United States Code, cooperative agreements</added-phrase> under appropriate
				terms and conditions, with State and local agencies, and nonprofit
				organizations—</text>
						<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF2CDE049EDBF49C7AA6B14874CB8F2B8"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to provide exhibits, interpretive services
				(including employing individuals to provide such services), and technical
				assistance;</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9D067C12FBFB47DE8BDF504CC361E2E9"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to conduct activities that facilitate the
				dissemination of information relating to the Park and the Island Explorer
				transit
				<deleted-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="strikethrough">system</deleted-phrase><added-phrase committee-id="SSEG00" reported-display-style="italic">system (or any successor
				transit system)</added-phrase>;</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H62D3BA6046C849D98985CC6B00005684"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to provide financial assistance for the
				construction of the intermodal transportation center in exchange for space in
				the center that is sufficient to interpret the Park; and</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H573C1B109B4C40A7B44542832D571EEE"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to assist with the operation and
				maintenance of the intermodal transportation center.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE738DE021DF245F9AC7776F11C9BA168"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Authorization of
				appropriations</header>
						<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H7621C511588A47438557C7600989E4E2"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There are authorized
				to be appropriated to the Secretary such sums as are necessary to carry out
				this section (including planning, design and construction of the intermodal
				transportation center).</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4C0046470DB9457AB810C0C84E784EBA"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Operations and
				maintenance</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There are
				authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to maintain and
				operate the intermodal transportation
				center.</text>
