		<legis-type>A BILL</legis-type>
		<official-title>To increase the number of Iraqi and Afghani translators
		  and interpreters who may be admitted to the United States as special
		  immigrants.</official-title>

		<section id="id210C0A06C99946C89DAC32611EC0C59D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Special immigrant status for
			 certain aliens serving as translators or interpreters with Federal
			 agencies</header>
			<subsection id="idE1BB8B5634164FECA9905FD53096F18C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increase in
			 numbers admitted</header><text>Section 1059 of the National Defense
			 Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (8 U.S.C. 1101 note) is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id829E43D70948494EB3860FDCAC2CEC8B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (b)(1)—</text>
					<subparagraph id="id68ECAEEBEE424CC79213246A5DEF2DB9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (B), by striking <quote>as a translator</quote> and inserting <quote>, or under
			 Chief of Mission authority, as a translator or interpreter</quote> ;</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6D17BCD6905D400A883FF617C555E876"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (C), by inserting <quote>the Chief of Mission or</quote> after
			 <quote>recommendation from</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id555C31BD11734E77B4D9E01D3DB3ADBD"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (D), by inserting <quote>the Chief of Mission or</quote> after <quote>as
			 determined by</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="idF076F21085E64E4D90467383535BEF48"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (c)(1), by striking <quote>section during any fiscal year shall not exceed
			 50.</quote> and inserting the following: “section—</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idFD126070A8CE486E96D500D845CE3202" style="OLC">
						<subparagraph id="id22F000D76B684438ADC93B4E2ADCCE52"><enum>(A)</enum><text>during each of
				the fiscal years 2007, 2008, and 2009, shall not exceed 500; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7DB4EE44069B495C9086BC0677BE7D90"><enum>(B)</enum><text>during any other
				fiscal year shall not exceed
				50.</text>
						</subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idD57DB38A582049469FC68A47943B9AD8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Aliens exempt
			 from employment-based numerical limitations</header><text>Section 1059(c)(2) of
			 such Act is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id4F8C2407313645E09F39C8E5C3A0DC96"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by amending the
			 paragraph heading to read as follows:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idF98276E3906147BAB426FDB334140CF0" style="OLC">
						<paragraph id="id5E53806C31F44665AF5A0EC883CD148C"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Aliens exempt
				from employment-based numerical
				limitations</header>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>;
				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id1AB180C66BA34CACB0203B8E70F6A2B4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 <quote>and shall not be counted against the numerical limitations under section
			 201(d), 202(a), and 203(b)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C.
			 1151(d), 1152(a), and 1153(b)(4))</quote> before the period at the end.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id0D1748B917404FF2B7DEA77587895773"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Adjustment of
			 status</header><text>Section 1059 of such Act is further amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="id4A693254505C4CDD9FD8C139B8B5542A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (d) as subsection (e); and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="id975BCF5313C94B1BB83102728155743B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 after subsection (c) the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id69DE2C1D6B9348B69939CE27934730B4" style="OLC">
						<subsection id="ID8fcd42e1d75d4e5ea917c7612701a466"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Adjustment of
				status</header><text>Notwithstanding paragraphs (2), (7) and (8) of section
				245(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1255(c)), the Secretary
				of Homeland Security may adjust the status of an alien to that of a lawful
				permanent resident under section 245(a) of such Act if the alien—</text>
							<paragraph id="id970A549503354A7191EB6D4601B92A09"><enum>(1)</enum><text>was paroled or
				admitted as a nonimmigrant into the United States; and</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="id52989535A1C44B3096BD254E62069E0F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>is otherwise
				eligible for special immigrant status under this section and under the
				Immigration and Nationality
				Act.</text>
