<whereas><text>Whereas there are 105 historically Black colleges and universities in the United States;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas historically Black colleges and universities provide the quality education essential to full participation in a complex, highly technological society;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas historically Black colleges and universities have a rich heritage and have played a prominent role in the history of the United States;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas historically Black colleges and universities have allowed many underprivileged students to attain their full potential through higher education; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the achievements and goals of historically Black colleges and universities are deserving of national recognition: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble>

<section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HD0C6AF95E65B4783A1B0DF50EADA696C"><text>That the House of Representatives—</text> 
<paragraph id="H30C7F2F1BD3445A993A7F1EE89E7767"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">recognizes the achievements and goals of historically Black colleges and universities in the United States;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H45A3FDD0BC7241B0AC6C9FEA879BE572"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports the designation of an appropriate week as <quote>National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HD09350CB046D48F6AA4994BB001325B7"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">requests the President to issue a proclamation designating such a week, and calling on the people of the United States and interested groups to observe such week with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs to demonstrate support for historically Black colleges and universities.</text></paragraph></section>
