		<section id="H14FC1DA017F74CDB955C4EC672EA71D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Space Commerce Act of
			 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H912F88A0DCC04ECE9C8951D47FAEA134"><enum>2.</enum><header>Establishment of
			 the Office of Space Commerce</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 8 of the Technology Administration
			 Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/1511e">15 U.S.C. 1511e</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="H7191175E702A4CC59B6416AC2B33D6AD"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the section
			 heading, by striking <quote><header-in-text level="section" style="OLC">Commercialization</header-in-text></quote> and inserting
			 <quote><header-in-text level="section" style="OLC">Commerce</header-in-text></quote>; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HF0E10537C4204F7294004CCDD74F366B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by amending
			 subsection (a) to read as follows:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9DFC00A6602B4DB48DCC874B237640C4" style="OLC">
					<subsection id="H19160680A35949AC8FC6564F80621234"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is established within the Department
				of Commerce an Office of Space Commerce (referred to in this section as the
				<quote>Office</quote>).</text>
					</subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph></section><section id="HEE419BF64EB240E19EC036B501096480"><enum>3.</enum><header>Functions of the
			 Office of Space Commerce</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 8(c) of the Technology
			 Administration Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/1511e">15 U.S.C. 1511e(c)</external-xref>) is amended to read as
			 follows:</text>

				<subsection id="HBF7B7FEEA57945CC94E46653002B333E"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Functions of
				Office</header><text>The Office shall be the principal unit for space commerce
				policy activities within the Department of Commerce. The Office shall—</text>
					<paragraph id="H081D89949BC746C9A2136F3D58E13656"><enum>(1)</enum><text>foster the
				conditions for the economic growth and technological advancement of the United
				States space commerce industry;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H2D65BF903E3349349EBBEA0585BF4250"><enum>(2)</enum><text>coordinate space
				commerce policy issues and actions within the Department of Commerce;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H494531C27BEF46D883420109AAF49076"><enum>(3)</enum><text>represent the
				Department of Commerce in the development of United States policies and in
				negotiations with foreign countries to promote United States space
				commerce;</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H4A149AEFC2FA4390B0A1D22443C5C856"><enum>(4)</enum><text>promote the
				advancement of United States geospatial technologies related to space commerce,
				in cooperation with relevant interagency working groups; and</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="H78B50B9DFCC64B65AD64EF131C326B09"><enum>(5)</enum><text>provide support to
				the Federal Government organizations established pursuant to the United States
				Space-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Policy issued by the President
				on December 8, 2004 (and any successor
				organizations).</text>
