<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD25318696EE74DC7A3285900737254E7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Beach nourishment</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 156 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1976 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1962d-5f">42 U.S.C. 1962d–5f</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HB881846E01C441DFAAABA16F3609B04D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting “(a) <header-in-text level="subsection">In general</header-in-text>.—” before “The Secretary”; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H7CE8D8F9E27443C1A2136CE536BBC967"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection id="H8B24F81ABD77472100742FC6D6E45E4F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Requests for extensions</header><text>At the request of a non-Federal interest, the Secretary, acting through the Chief of Engineers, may extend the period during which the Secretary provides beach nourishment for a project under subsection (a) for such additional period as the Secretary determines necessary, except that the additional period may not exceed 50 years.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section>
