		<official-title>To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide
		  penalties for displaying nooses in public with intent to harass or intimidate a
		  person because of that person’s race, color, religion, or national
		  origin.</official-title>

		<section id="H1D4EE8E5F276436CA2311EB5784ECDD7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Noose Hate Crime Act of
			 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H5A7779F0313549FE91192B6C00160878"><enum>2.</enum><header>Displaying nooses
			 in public with intent to harass or intimidate</header>
			<subsection id="HD0C290B5A42946A7BA68CBEED2B7F7AA"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Chapter 13 of title
			 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HADA81BF619BA42E9A58FD8D70010E966" style="USC">
					<section id="H2577A1DD421C430BA43735672F47F1E"><enum>249.</enum><header>Displaying
				nooses in public with intent to intimidate</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Whoever, with intent to harass or intimidate
				any person because of that person’s race, color, religion, or national origin,
				displays a noose in public shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not
				more than 2 years, or
				both.</text>

			</subsection><subsection id="HDF01E0F384254A55853D764BAD22C26F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of
			 sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/13">chapter 13</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is
			 amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>
