		<official-title>To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to exempt
		  from the critical access hospital inpatient bed limitation the number of beds
		  provided for certain veterans.</official-title>

		<section id="HC7F7A28493F14165B4EF00B2E7CC78DC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote>Veterans
			 Critical Access Act</quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HC89E15A9A218475D00B286700028B4BE"><enum>2.</enum><header>Critical access
			 hospital inpatient bed limitation exemption for beds provided to certain
			 veterans</header>
			<subsection id="HDFF65810702B4AD48DD3CE3022465B9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1820(c) of
			 the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395i-4">42 U.S.C. 1395i–4(c)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end
			 the following new paragraph:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H567D4506862F4EFC89456844C3A1C4C0" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="H09A40928B864457E950676C4E277F522"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Exemption from
				bed limitation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes
				of this section, no acute care inpatient bed shall be counted against any
				numerical limitation specified under this section for such a bed (or for
				inpatient bed days with respect to such a bed) if the bed is provided for an
				individual who is a veteran and the Department of Veterans Affairs referred the
				individual for care in the hospital or is coordinating such care with other
				care being provided by such Department.</text>

			</subsection><subsection id="H16A4C0778B8748BDB4F6BC8386E3C7C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply to cost
			 reporting periods beginning on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
