		<legis-type>A BILL</legis-type>
		<official-title>To provide an exception to certain mandatory minimum
		  sentence requirements for a law enforcement officer who uses, carries, or
		  possesses a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence committed
		  while pursuing or apprehending a suspect.</official-title>

		<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H1D5B476EA1A04A38A07936E0BBC0007E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Exception to certain
			 mandatory minimum sentencing requirements for a law enforcement officer who
			 uses, carries, or possesses a firearm during and in relation to a crime of
			 violence committed while pursuing or apprehending a suspect</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/924">Section 924(c)(1)</external-xref> of title 18, United States
			 Code, is amended by redesignating subparagraphs (B) through (D) as
			 subparagraphs (C) through (E), respectively, and inserting after subparagraph
			 (A) the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H505E8D8D0E244502A0D2DD18BAB81391" style="OLC">
				<subparagraph id="H43DEB2A1D5E9499F9CF1BBE35E692C00" indent="up2"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The minimum sentencing requirements of
				subparagraph (A) shall not apply if—</text>
					<clause id="HA9DF2D5CF54F40AF93ED55442162BAF4"><enum>(i)</enum><text>at the time the person used, carried,
				or possessed the firearm, the person was a law enforcement officer authorized
				to carry the firearm;</text>
					</clause><clause id="H990979C1B0174919A6B54F11053639AF"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the offense under this paragraph occurred
				while the person was on-duty, and during or in relation to the pursuit or
				apprehension of an individual who the person reasonably believed had committed
				a crime; and</text>
					</clause><clause id="H330148CC02BE433498327B5226E6AAC7"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>the crime committed by the person
				during and in relation to which the offense under this paragraph occurred is a
				crime of
				violence.</text>
