<official-title>To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to require local educational agencies to provide to parents, on request, information regarding the professional qualifications of their child’s specialized instructional support persons.</official-title>

<section id="H09705EFA78E9450BA9E4007F9CC72600" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Parents’ Right to Know Improvement Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section>
<section id="H12B57B0BF78E42038495D87DFE18ECF"><enum>2.</enum><header>Specialized instructional support person</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1111(h)(6) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/6311">20 U.S.C. 6311(h)(6)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HA64253BF232B4332BA9535B31E819010"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A)—</text>
<subparagraph id="HCE86E55F81024BD5BB2D114EC81B4C79"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the matter preceding clause (i), by inserting <quote>and specialized instructional support persons</quote> after <quote>teachers</quote>; </text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H01F537FC274B48A9A0A8E81794B3CC00"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking clause (i) and inserting the following:</text>
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H60851BDE452E42219D2999BE00F918FC" display-inline="no-display-inline">
<clause id="HB4DDE615E87E4F2700D8DDA93700AD3E"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whether State qualification and licensing criteria have been met by—</text>
<subclause id="H817B7CA935B747ADBC76888059DD90A3"><enum>(I)</enum><text>the teacher for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction; or</text></subclause>
<subclause id="H077B6FFF35FA4812BCACBFC891AC398B"><enum>(II)</enum><text>the specialized instructional support person for the services described in subparagraph (D) which the specialized instructional support person provides.</text></subclause></clause><after-quoted-block>;</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H85B04C693DC640959800A800EA8ED009"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in clause (ii), by inserting <quote>or the specialized instructional support person is providing the services described in subparagraph (D)</quote> after <quote>teaching</quote>; and</text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H16FC35F1540146DB94AC8112AA93D858"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in clause (iii), by inserting <quote>or specialized instructional support person</quote> after <quote>teacher</quote> each place it appears; and </text>

<paragraph id="H876BA3C121AF4981BB22F8AE3135EF9E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new subparagraph: </text>

<subparagraph id="HC45338828A7A47C78185A7F5A8BEC5FA"><enum>(D)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this paragraph, the term <quote>specialized instructional support person</quote> means a school counselor, school social worker, school psychologist, or other qualified professional involved in providing assessment, diagnosis, counseling, educational, therapeutic, or other services (including related services as that term is defined in section 602 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1401">20 U.S.C. 1401</external-xref>)) as part of a comprehensive program to meet student needs. </text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </paragraph></section>
