<official-title>To expand the definition of independent student in the Higher Education Act of 1965 to include homeless youth.</official-title>

<section id="H4748E76CCF0D494EAF9002C8291000B2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>FAFSA Fix for Homeless Kids Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H21ED01F6B5B744D296D41316D3D100E3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Homeless youth included in definition of independent student</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 480(d) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1087vv">20 U.S.C. 1087vv(d)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H46C51EF9F068499B00547B28C529283"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (6) and (7) as paragraphs (7) and (8), respectively; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA737C3E2B2804B99000018AEC06CE565"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (5) the following new paragraph:</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H363773A8DA1C4DC4B274128E55E443BB" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<paragraph id="H1DBC5AFD896343EC88D64BDCCC4EA33B"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">has been verified as both a homeless child or youth and an unaccompanied youth, as such terms are defined in section 725 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/11434a">42 U.S.C. 11434a</external-xref>), during the school year in which the application for financial assistance is submitted, by—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H99A79643DF7D47E4BB8770807F35485C"><enum>(A)</enum><text>a local educational agency liaison for homeless children and youths, as designated under section 722(g)(1)(J)(ii) of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/11432">42 U.S.C. 11432(g)(1)(J)(ii)</external-xref>); </text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H799A3615520542F1849C4FE18B1D619D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>a director of a homeless shelter, transitional shelter, or independent living program; or </text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H5002E9B629024C7580C4DD3359E0EA00"><enum>(C)</enum><text>a financial aid administrator;</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section>
