		<official-title>To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide secret
		  service protection to former Vice Presidents, and for other
		  purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="HD7CEA406A0684CFC9B627304D0713145" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be referred to as the
			 <quote><short-title>Former Vice President Protection Act of
			 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HF2C466DBF5B941D5959DABF18CE22997"><enum>2.</enum><header>Secret Service
			 protection for former Vice Presidents and their families</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/3056">Section 3056(a)</external-xref> of title 18, United States
			 Code, is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="H436E102F48984D8798D2E2E239E8DEB"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting immediately after paragraph
			 (7) the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HC05F4DFD58EA4A76BE133C6C9F00658D" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="H6412EE20B5E647CCBFC6C3AC794D4622"><enum>(8)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Former Vice Presidents, their spouses, and
				their children who are under 16 years of age, for a period of not more than six
				months after the date the former Vice President leaves office. The Secretary of
				Homeland Security shall have the authority to direct the Secret Service to
				provide temporary protection for any of these individuals at any time
				thereafter if the Secretary of Homeland Security or designee determines that
				information or conditions warrant such
				protection.</text>

				and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HE077FE0D98944C3C963C152202CB00C2"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the sentence immediately preceding
			 subsection (b) of section 3056, by striking <quote>(7)</quote> and inserting
			 <quote>(8)</quote>.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="H4BA8FC568B084C679C0409004B8773F"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 this Act shall apply with respect to any Vice President holding office on or
			 after the date of enactment of the Act.</text>
