		<official-title>To require the Secretary of Defense to establish a
		  mortgage foreclosure counseling program for members of the Armed Forces
		  returning from service abroad.</official-title>

		<section id="H7188435CE9A9429FB5573DF90046CD12" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Veterans Mortgage Education Act of
			 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H29BE5BCDCB464A43B91674DE8E95B6EF" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Counseling on mortgage
			 foreclosures for members of the Armed Forces returning from service
			 abroad</header>
			<subsection id="HFE5AD170F6004DC8B0F44F551BD5EF75"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>The Secretary of Defense shall develop and implement a
			 program to advise members of the Armed Forces (including members of the
			 National Guard and Reserve) who are returning from service on active duty
			 abroad (including service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
			 Freedom) on actions to be taken by such members to prevent or forestall
			 mortgage foreclosures.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H9C1ED58183614D2300AF1858C8FB8EBB"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Elements</header><text>The
			 program required by subsection (a) shall include the following:</text>
				<paragraph id="H7C8E2C59F044497AB0A90A2A5E6335"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Credit
			 counseling.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H06759F1832E34EB29998F8DED608C1C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Home mortgage
			 counseling.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HEBF97338BC7D499BB7CA2DFEFB00AF5E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Such other
			 counseling and information as the Secretary considers appropriate for purposes
			 of the program.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H1D8EE9A2B130449A8CAE42BF8CF60787"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Timing of
			 provision of counseling</header><text>Counseling and other information under
			 the program required by subsection (a) shall be provided to a member of the
			 Armed Forces covered by the program as soon as practicable after the return of
			 the member from service as described in subsection (a).</text>
