		<official-title>To amend title 10, United States Code, to clarify the
		  effective date of active duty of members of the reserve components of the Armed
		  Forces receiving an alert order anticipating a call or order to active duty in
		  support of a contingency operation for purposes of entitlement to medical and
		  dental care as members of the Armed Forces on active duty.</official-title>

		<section id="H4B692D9B89CB478095442FA8E26CB9F2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>National Guard and Reserve Readiness
			 Act of 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HE91ECEFCD478461CA69E4BE9436469C1" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Effective date of
			 active duty for purposes of entitlement to active duty health care of members
			 of the reserve components of the Armed Forces receiving alert order
			 anticipating a call or order to active duty in support of a contingency
			 operation</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Subsection (d) of
			 <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/10/1074">section 1074</external-xref> of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as
			 follows:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4DEDD673B0FF4471B65DACDBE627CAF6" style="OLC">
				<subsection id="HEBB38AE161A04B51986F785300B481C6"><enum>(d)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="HE5AF432F51594391891D16367B8D1C57"><enum>(1)</enum><text>For purposes of this
				chapter, a member of a reserve component of the armed forces shall be treated
				as a member of the armed forces on active duty as follows:</text>
						<subparagraph id="HCB3E9E3154CD4156BDEF3D31ADE008B" indent="up1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>On the date of the issuance of the
				alert order for the member's unit in anticipation of the mobilization of the
				unit for service for a period of more than 30 days in support of a contingency
				operation.</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H114AF5A12CC54EF9A233C056C05B82DC" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>On the date of the issuance of the
				order providing for the assignment or attachment of the member to a unit
				subject to an alert order described in paragraph (1).</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H30FCCAE64E064CA5878F28DB45C63FDC" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>If the alert order for a member's
				unit (or the unit to which the member is assigned or attached) is rescinded,
				the member shall cease to be treated on active duty for purposes of this
				chapter as of the date of the issuance of the order rescinding such alert
				order.</text>
