		<section id="HCDA3BDE487584714BA45FE4D548ECD4D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Homefront Heroes Helping Frontline
			 Families Tax Relief Act of 2008</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H1779732F71204EEB856EDC1760495C9D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Credit for
			 volunteer service to military families through America Supports You
			 program</header>
			<subsection id="H8984719B03B3436A9E671F87AD95E274"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subpart A of part IV
			 of subchapter A of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/26/1">chapter 1</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to
			 nonrefundable personal credits) is amended by inserting after section 25D the
			 following new section:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H0CCAD162D7B540B4A9A2EEB9D98FC717" style="OLC">
					<section id="H639D34F05FFA477880DB3EC0D1E44F3B"><enum>25E.</enum><header>Volunteer
				service to military families through America Supports You program</header>
						<subsection id="H28B7D9B961EB49C7B598003C53EF9143"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Allowance of
				credit</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of an
				individual, there shall be allowed as a credit against the tax imposed by this
				chapter for the taxable year an amount equal to the sum of the qualified
				service amounts with respect to qualified service performed during the taxable
				year by the taxpayer, his spouse, and his dependents (as defined in section
				152, determined without regard to subsections (b)(1), (b)(2), and (d)(1)(B)
				thereof).</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H8114CFFB8A3D412EA64C56A21E39693D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text>The
				amount allowed as a credit under subsection (a) for a taxable year shall not
				exceed $500.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H183C5C508D3744F0BCD943F7F000B901"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Qualified
				service amount</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes
				of subsection (a), the term <term>qualified service amount</term> means, with
				respect to an hour (or portion thereof) of qualified service, the minimum wage
				required under section 6(a) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C.
				206(a)) as in effect on the date of such service.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H0476C091E91A485A8806952666466905"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Qualified
				service</header><text>For purposes of subsection (a)—</text>
							<paragraph id="H6BCF93CE5CE642398E05F9DE062EADA"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text>The term <term>qualified service</term> means service
				meeting the requirements of paragraph (2) which is provided through an
				organization—</text>
								<subparagraph id="H33F36C4828B54170AAE0F14D85FF1785"><enum>(A)</enum><text>described in
				section 501(c)(3) and exempt from tax under section 501(a), and</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB7497A324E664324B5DD289F2E24CB7E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>which is approved
				by the Secretary of Defense to participate in the America Supports You program
				of the Department of Defense.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HAE4EE237821D4090B484E9356FF52E36"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Service
				requirements</header><text>Service meets the requirements of this paragraph if
				the service—</text>
								<subparagraph id="H4BBB77D8050E4A1AA700497482840079"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is provided on a
				volunteer basis,</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HBBF86A9B2B9B4DF59017C01315D49C73"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is for not less
				than 10 hours per week in not less than 4 weeks of the taxable year, and</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H4423DFD3250942CD917700D69EAC04F7"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is directly involved with the mission of
				the America Supports You program of helping military families.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H046501DD1AC6482D900070AD66635FF4"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Certification
				requirement</header><text>Service shall not be taken into account under this
				section unless the organization through which such service is performed
				certifies the date of such service and that such service meets the requirements
				of paragraph (2).</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HCC71B81F862F4D6B8C8192CA3DF27336"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Inflation
				adjustment</header>
							<paragraph id="H1D496D7970464325BDFFA38C1DB3FA1"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of any
				taxable year beginning in a calendar year after 2008, the $500 amount in
				subsection (b) shall be increased by such amount multiplied by the percentage
				change (if any) from the minimum wage on January 1, 2008, to the minimum wage
				on the last day of the preceding taxable year.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="H4CD3F7D7BFCC40A9B2670717B148EA76"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Minimum
				wage</header><text>For purposes of paragraph (1), the term <term>minimum
				wage</term> means the minimum wage required under section 6(a) of the Fair
				Labor Standards Act of 1938 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/29/206">29 U.S.C. 206(a)</external-xref>).</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="HF518A860F7DC41F7ABDCDF00557CD685"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Rounding</header><text>If
				any amount as adjusted under paragraph (1) is not a multiple of $10, such
				amount shall be rounded to the nearest multiple of $10.</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HAFBC92746E904BA9B7DC26008E008070"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text>The
				Secretary shall prescribe such regulations as may be necessary or appropriate
				to carry out this
				section.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="H02D5E4D34BE2468F9B749F6B71E2E782"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of
			 sections for subpart A of part IV of subchapter A of chapter 1 of such Code is
			 amended by inserting after the items relating to section 25D the following new
			 item:</text>

						<toc-entry idref="H639D34F05FFA477880DB3EC0D1E44F3B" level="section">Sec. 25E. Volunteer service to military families through
				America Supports You
				program.</toc-entry>
					</toc>
					<after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="HC3BC6DBEB64F4EE9A9098473C798159D"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 this section shall apply to service performed in taxable years beginning after
			 December 31, 2007.</text>
