<legis-type>AN ACT</legis-type> 
<official-title display="yes">To reauthorize the Debbie Smith DNA Backlog Grant Program, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H7C16E49E87FB45BB9570F24D6661FCE3" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act of 2008</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HDE19A179FED348F38088D72384F7D662"><enum>2.</enum><header>General reauthorization</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2 of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/14135">42 U.S.C. 14135</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H4594ACD63A7747AA00B4ADA818BB0005"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (c)(3), by—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H7A6137204D6246E8B522226D790032F0"><enum>(A)</enum><text>striking subparagraphs (A) through (D);</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H77B6730E4B4249558DCF9DF4DE6000A4"><enum>(B)</enum><text>redesignating subparagraph (E) and subparagraph (A); and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HC514397FD94749FC96CA1965108DE3F"><enum>(C)</enum><text>inserting at the end the following:</text> 
<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H49ABB50FF18045C8B01BD47956D0B2E4" style="OLC"> 
<subparagraph id="H0763F22F9B4F4647988E2F25D3B77115"><enum>(B)</enum><text>For each of the fiscal years 2010 through 2014, not less than 40 percent of the grant amounts shall be awarded for purposes under subsection (a)(2).</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H7B5769DBCDC145B0A82E857D883E4D4F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by amending subsection (j) to read as follows:</text>

<subsection id="HC2765EFC180C41DA9EC46DA3B5F2737D"><enum>(j)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated to the Attorney General for grants under subsection (a) $151,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2009 through 2014.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section> 
<section id="HAA8918A8A63D43F98F11D09F0751303F"><enum>3.</enum><header>Training and education</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 303(b) of the DNA Sexual Assault Justice Act of 2004 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/14136">42 U.S.C. 14136(b)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>2005 through 2009</quote> and inserting <quote>2009 through 2014</quote>.</text></section> 
<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB27A511CFB124A30B11454BCD99065A8" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>4.</enum><header>Sexual assault forensic exam grants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 304(c) of the DNA Sexual Assault Justice Act of 2004 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/14136a">42 U.S.C. 14136a(c)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>2005 through 2009</quote> and inserting <quote>2009 through 2014</quote>.</text></section>
