		<official-title>To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to conduct a
		  study on suicides among veterans.</official-title>

		<section id="H941DF029406A4F97ABB55CA24B6D2246" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote>Veterans
			 Suicide Study Act</quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H2C856D52B5DC4F7F858DA62F25C97741" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress makes the following
			 findings:</text>
			<paragraph id="HD40AE21053254442B124D7FA00009F2B"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Suicide among the veteran population is a
			 serious problem.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HE2867CE221B244A381E5DE30EDA42FE7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>There is lack of
			 information on the number of veterans who commit suicide each year.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="HAEB17AEA021A4FE1AA0100DBD5939232"><enum>3.</enum><header>Study on suicides
			 among veterans</header>
			<subsection id="H9718B5B722694652B5675427DD945E04"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Study
			 required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of
			 Veterans Affairs shall conduct a study to determine the number of veterans who
			 have committed suicide between January 1, 1997 and the date of the enactment of
			 this Act.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HF5B99B8CB2584DB1B8B9DE0072B725B9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Coordination</header><text>In
			 carrying out the study under subsection (a) the Secretary of Veterans Affairs
			 shall coordinate with—</text>
				<paragraph id="H129DB09C1EA44D31BF8951EF79A3B1C3"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Secretary of
			 Defense;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H9A9064E1C78640C5AA95E2064000D2AB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Veterans Service
			 Organizations; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H8E005DD3BCA645B20078C54E7396F3D3"><enum>(3)</enum><text>States public
			 health offices and veterans agencies.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1F0F7D8D15A24DFAA62B6CE68E026CA0"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report to
			 Congress</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of
			 this Act, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall submit to Congress a report
			 on the study required under subsection (a) and the findings of the Secretary.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H09AA94DA14D5479CAB772881CBA1FA5"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated such sums
			 as may be necessary to carry out this Act.</text>
